ABER boss Antonio Corbisiero was delighted with his players’ fight and determination at the Deeside Stadium on Friday night.
Craig Curran’s header on the half hour was all that separated the two sides as champions Connah’s Quay maintained their winning start.
He said: “It was a really pleasing performance against last year’s champions.
“We started off very brightly, Jon Owen hit the post within the first five minutes and we continued to put pressure on them.
“They had a few chances to be fair to them and then they scored on the half hour which wasn’t very nice but we kept on going.
“The boys were tremendous. They kept on showing fight and determination. The effort that they’ve given us in the Barry game and then against the champions was incredible.
“We didn’t give up until the final whistle, we still had plenty of chances. We defended with our lives, Connah’s Quay had a good few chances but we put our bodies on the line.
“We had a great block from our skipper Thorny on the line to stop Jamie Insall scoring an overhead kick and then Owain Jones had a chance at the end where the keeper’s pulled off a magnificent save.
“Overall, it was a real positive from all the players. They just continue to keep on giving to us and that can only put us in good stead to face Flint on Saturday.”
