CRYMYCH made a sensational start to their Costcutter Ceredigion League Premier Division campaign with a commanding 7-2 victory at Maesglas on Tuesday evening.

Sion Vaughan led the charge with a hat-trick, while John Williams, Sam Phillips, Gethin Evans and Rhodri George also got their names on the scoresheet.

Adam Roberts and Jimmy Myers replied for the hosts, but there was little stopping a rampant Crymych side on the opening night of the season.

St Dogmaels also began their league programme in impressive fashion, overcoming reigning champions Llechryd 5-2 at Cae Steffan.

Buoyed by an encouraging pre-season, the Saints started brightly and took the lead when captain Adam Williams curled a superb free-kick into the net.

Llechryd responded against the run of play, however, with Liam Doherty converting from the penalty spot before Dylan Davies completed the turnaround on 18 minutes.

The Saints reacted superbly.

A long goal kick from Osian Williams was flicked on by Luke Jones before Louis Harding beat his marker and delivered a perfect cross for Gwilym Rees to head home the equaliser.

With momentum firmly on their side, the hosts soon regained the lead. Another move originating from a Williams goal kick was helped on by Rhys Jones before Elliott Wigley weaved his way through the Llechryd defence and squared for Rees to grab his second of the evening.

St Dogmaels continued to threaten and extended their advantage when Harding showed excellent skill to create the space needed to fire past the goalkeeper after being picked out by the influential Wigley.

The hosts maintained control after the interval and effectively sealed victory when Luke Jones forced an error in the Llechryd defence before Harding produced an excellent turn and finish to make it 5-2, sparking celebrations among the Cae Steffan faithful.

Elsewhere, Llanboidy edged out Cardigan 2-1. Harri Jones broke the deadlock shortly after the hour mark before Jody Wright levelled for Cardigan on 78 minutes. Substitute Lee Strudley had the final say, however, netting the winner moments later.

Division One

Dewi Stars got their Division One campaign off to the perfect start with a 4-1 victory away to Llanon.

Rupert Geddes broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time, only for Thomas Rees-Jones to equalise in stoppage time.

The visitors quickly regained the lead after the restart when Rhodri Edwards finished well following good work from Oscar Evans.

Dewi Stars continued to press and were rewarded when Geddes struck his second goal of the evening on 82 minutes before turning provider for Hari Griffiths to wrap up an impressive opening-day success.

Pencader United also began with three points, recording a 3-0 home win over Bargod Rangers.

Connor Reece Timms opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Morgan Mably added a second and Llew Jones capped an excellent team move with a headed third.

Llechryd Reserves defeated St Dogmaels Reserves 3-1 thanks to goals from Taylor Wells, Sean Davies and Gwion Howell. Donnie Breedyk scored the visitors' consolation.

Elsewhere, Aberaeron and New Quay shared the spoils in a goalless draw.
