NEWCASTLE Emlyn’s long trip to Berriew in the fourth round of the Central Wales Senior Challenge Cup ended in disappointment as the MMP Mid Wales division one side eased to a 5-0 victory.
The lively Reds were already five goals down at the half-time interval, and despite an improved second period, there was to be no way back as Berriew marched on into the quarter-final stage.
Andy Evans starred with a hat-trick, with goals from Joe Haycock and Niall Thomas completing a convincing home win over the Costcutter Ceredigion League side.
Llanidloes Town marched on with a 4-1 win over MMP Mid Wales division two side Penparcau, who finished with nine men after picking up two red cards.
Connor Bird opened the scoring, but despite going down to 10 men when Anthony Evans was sent off, Penparcau’s Liam Jaques netted an equaliser, before the Daffs made their advantage count.
A quick-fire double from brothers Edwards and George Clarke put them in control and Phil Jones made it 4-1, before Penparcau also had scorer Jaques sent off.
Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League side Llanilar exited the competition as they were beaten 4-0 at Bishops Castle, as goals from George Mellor, Mark Griffiths, Omar Bozdag and an own goal saw the Shropshire club through.
JD Cymru side Guilsfield proved took strong for local rivals Waterloo Rovers as they roared to an emphatic 9-0 win against the Welshpool-based team.
Goals from Chris Cathrall and Callum Bromley had separated the sides at the break, before Robbie James’ goal early in the second-half opened the floodgates.
Adam Jenkins completed a quick-fire hat-trick, whilst Steve Blenkinsop also netted a brace of goals, and Jenkins added his fourth goal from the penalty spot.
Will Thomas meanwhile scored all four goals as Welshpool Town eased to a 4-1 win at home to Rhayader Town, who had hit back through Taylor Wozencraft.
Brecon Corinthians also booked their quarter-final ticket as a Joel Evans double and a Paul Keddle strike sealed a 3-1 win at home to Tywyn/Bryncrug, who had taken the lead through a Nick Williams penalty.
Goals from Greg Preece, with brace, and Danny Ives earned Builth Wells a 3-2 win at Montgomery, with Glynn Coney and Dewi Hughes netting for the home side.
