LLANIDLOES Town boss Hugh Clarke is hoping that his side can make a welcome return to Spar Mid Wales League division one action at home against mid-table rivals Hay St Mary’s on Saturday.

Like much of the league, they were frustrated by the wet weather last weekend when their scheduled trip to Aberaeron was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Clarke took the chance to put his side through their paces with an eight and a half mile run, but he said that he is hopeful of a return to the pitch this weekend.

The Daffs were due to visit Berriew in the fourth round of the Central Wales Cup last night (Tuesday), weather permitting, before hosting Hay St Mary’s at Victoria Avenue on Saturday (ko 2.30pm).

Clarke is looking for his side to build on their performance in the 1-0 loss to title chasing Penrhyncoch in their last outing.

“We were a bit unlucky, and could have come away with something,” he said.

“We now need to keep that level of performance going until the end of the season, and start to turn it into league points.

“I don’t know too much about Hay St Mary’s, they are there or thereabouts with us in the league, but being at home we’re looking to push on and get a win.”

Both sides have 22 points, with Llani in eighth place, and Hay one place above on goal difference, with two games in hand.

The Daffs hope to be close to full strength for the weekend, although defender Steve Jones has a groin injury.

• The draw for the quarter-finals of the Spar Mid Wales League Cup has been made, with division one high-flyers Penrhyncoch having home advantage against division two side Radnor Valley.

The winners will go on to face either Llanrhaeadr or Carno in the semi-finals.

In the other end of the draw the winners of the tie between Hay St Mary’s and Montgomery Town will go on to face either Knighton of Aberaeron, with both semi-finals to be held a neutral venues.

Meanwhile the E R Jenkins Division Two Cup semi-finals will see Abermule take on the winners of Borth and Berriew at home, whilst Radnor Valley have home advantage against the winners of the last eight tie between Kerry and Bettws.

Last weekend’s Central Wales Senior Challenge Cup ties between Aberystwyth University and Hay St Mary’s; Llansantffraid Village and Carno; and Machynlleth and Llanrhaeadr were postponed.
