TWO goals at the start of each half helped take Llanidloes Town into the third round of the FAW Trophy with a 3-2 victory over plucky Waterloo Rovers.

The made the perfect start as Connor Bird fired home the opening with virtually the first attack of the game, when driving home an 18-yard strike from the angle.

Llion Jenkins then doubled the lead with a glancing header at the beginning of the second period, to put the MMP Mid Wales League division one hosts in charge.

Some slack defending on the flanks, however, allowed the league’s second division newcomers to hit back, courtesy of a brace from Andrew Gwilt.

Rovers were right back in it, but the Daffs were not to be denied as Gregg Brown found the net from an Ed Clarke corner, taking Hugh Clarke’s side into next week’s third round draw. Another positive for the Daffs was that Kai Evans, a 16-year-old winger, came on for his first taste of first team action early in the second half.

Llanidloes Town have no league game on Saturday, before hosting Newbridge in the Radnorshire Cup next Tuesday evening (7.30pm kick-off).

MMP MID WALES LEAGUE / MIDWEEK

RADNOR Valley moved two points clear at the top of the MMP Mid Wales League division one with a 4-1 win at Llansantffraid on Tuesday.

Goals from Joey Price, with a brace, Steve Morgan and Jack Williams made it a magnificent seven wins from seven matches for the Radnor men.

Radnor headed into this game without the suspended Callum Matthews, whilst Liam Jones and Elliot Williams were unable to make the trip and a host of others still not cleared due to international clearance.Manager Paul Morgan was forced to don the jersey at the heart of the defence, with Steve Morgan also returning to the line up after a period of absence.

Llansantffraid's Nathan Prodger opened the scoring from the penalty spot, but on 35 minutes an excellent display of one touch football between Elliot Morris and Geraint Lloyd found Joey Price, who escaped from his marker to slot under the oncoming keeper to equalise.

The hosts hit the woodwork twice in the first half, but after a stern half time team talk from joint manager Adam Jones and assistant Zeke Vivian, Radnor came out stronger.

On 50 minutes Joey Price was brought down on the left hand side, and from the resulting free kick his delivery found the head of right back Steve Morgan, who powerfully headed home.

On the hour Joey Price was again brought down 30 yards from goal, and he dusted himself to curl his free kick in to the top left hand corner to send the visitors into delirium.

Visiting keeper Will Fowden saved a second penalty, and then saw a third go wide, before Llansantffraid showed their frustrations with a player sent off for a second yellow card.

With five minutes to go, Joey Price closed down the home centre back with a strong tackle and fed in Jack ‘Windy’ Williams who made no mistake with his side’s fourth goal.In division two, Rhayader Town took the derby spoils with a 5-1 win over Newbridge, courtesy of goals from Gareth Hughes, with a brace, Jamie Evans, Taylor Wozencraft and Ryan Addison.
