Llanidloes Town opened up a three point lead at the top of the MMP Mid Wales League division one after maintaining their unbeaten start with a 5-2 success away at Tywyn/Bryncrug.

A second half brace from Daf Carruthers, after first half strikes from Adam Worton, Connor Bird, from the penalty spot, and George Clarke saw the Daffs run out convincing winners on the day.

Boss Hugh Clarke was satisfied with what he saw, but was disappointed that his side were breached twice in the first half..

"Over the 90 minutes we deserved to win, we created chance after chance and always looked like scoring, but we had a few missing and were quite open defensively," said Clarke.

"We tightened things up in the second half, but we can’t afford to leak silly goals. They hit the bar, and Kris (Williams) also saved a one-on-one, so it could have been different. But we’ve got to be pleased with the win, which keeps our run going."

The Daffs were soon on the front foot but Tywyn took the lead against the run of play through Tom Allen-Davies, before three goals before the break put the visitors in the ascendancy.

Adam Worton headed the leveller as Ed Clarke whipped the ball in from a short corner with brother George, and Bird quickly had the Daffs in front when converting a penalty after Carruthers was fouled in the box.

George Clarke then fired a terrific third into the bottom corner from distance after linking with Ash Owen, but Tywyn quickly reduced the arrears before the break with a 30-yarder from Aled Jones to leave the outcome in the balance.

Llani, however, tightened their grip in the second period, and never looked back once they made it 4-2 just past the hour as Carruthers planted his half volley into the net from outside the box following Owen’s assist.

Carruthers then bagged his second to put paid to a battling Tywyn side after Bird had bravely flicked his header into his path.

Josh Evans, who missed 18 months with a knee injury, made a welcome return to competitive action when appearing as substitute for the last 10 minutes.

Victory stretched Llani’s unbeaten run in the league to eight games and saw them go three points clear of second placed Welshpool Town who were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Builth Wells.

A Ricky Litchfield goal earned Welshpool a point, with Christian Jones on the scoresheet for the visitors.

Aberaeron came within five minutes of notching their first win of the season as they were pegged back to a 1-1 draw at home to Berriew.

Man of the match Gareth Severs had opened the scoring for Aeron, but Joe Haycock’s late leveller snatched a point for the visiting side.

Andy Evans scored five goals as Carno ran away with a 7-1 home win over Hay St Mary’s at Ty Brith.

Matty Tong had halved the deficit for the Saints to make it 2-1 at half-time, but the hosts took charge in the second half. Richie Evans, with a curling free-kick, extended the lead, and further goals from Daniel Lewis and Evans completed the rout.

Kerry meanwhile eased to a 4-1 away win against still-winless Llansantffraid, with goals from Matt Mumford, with a brace, Jonathan O’Rourke and Daryl McWatt.
