LLANIDLOES Town endured another frustrating afternoon in the Spar Mid Wales League division one as more points went begging in a 1-1 draw with Aberaeron at Victoria Avenue.
With current league leaders Welshpool Town losing, the Daffs missed a chance of making up ground after being denied by a late leveller.
“The lads were frustrated, they felt it was like a defeat, but there were still a lot of positives to take, and we now need to take them on into next week,” said Llanidloes boss Hugh Clarke.
“We could have scored three or four, but got hit by a sucker punch at the end, which was disappointing.”
Clarke added: “We had four players out, but the lads who came in did well.
“The last few weeks have been crazy with the amount of points we’ve dropped, but we’re still third, and we would have settled for that at this stage of the season.”
Richie Evans had a couple of first half opportunities, Joe Evans shot just wide, whilst after the break Richie Evans had an effort disallowed in a tight offside call, and Ed Clarke hit the bar.
The Daffs did find the net when Clarke crossed for Matthew Savage to head home at the back post - but Aberaeron snatched a point five minutes from time when Ianto Evans fired home, following a free kick.
The draw leaves the Daffs seven points adrift of leaders Welshpool, with two games in hand, after the leaders slipped to a 1-0 defeat away at Radnor Valley.Radnor broke the deadlock when Cal Matthews won a penalty on 70 minutes, and Joey Price stepped up to convert into the bottom left corner.
Second-placed Llanrhaeadr moved to within three points of Pool, with four games in hand, as Tommy Evans’ late winner earned a 1-0 win at Llandrindod.
In a crucial bottom of the table match at Machynlleth, the hosts secured a goalless draw against Borth United.
In a game of few chances, Daniel Hopton came closest to breaking the deadlock for Borth, and Harry Cottam had the hosts’ best effort.
