DALE Davies made a highly profitable return to the Traeth as he netted twice to give Corwen all three points in their 2-1 JD Cymru North win over Porthmadog.

This important bottom three scrap was their second successive away win, and Port, despite their possession and territorial advantage, found a determined, well-organised Corwen difficult to unlock.

Port made the worst possible start as old boy Davies put Corwen ahead with a close range finish after just two minutes, when converting the simplest of finishes.

The goal did sting Port into action as Iwan Lewis made some strong runs through the middle and Rob Evans and John Owen provided a threat out wide.

Ilan ap Gareth’s shot was pushed away by keeper Nathan Roberts, who also made a superb reflex save to tip a point blank header from Mel McGinness over.

McGuiness supplied John Owen, but the keeper turned it out for a corner kick, before Port then equalised on 26 minutes.

Joe Owen struck the ball from 18 yards out, and a deflection sent the ball past the stranded Corwen keeper and into the net.

Corwen responded and former Port favourite Eilir Edwards broke forward and fired a low strike wide of the target, and Scott Evans was only narrowly off target.

At the other end, a free kick from Jay Gibbs was only narrowly off target, and then Owen had one shot cleared off the line, and another saved at the near post.

For the second half Ifan Emlyn came on for Ilan ap Gareth to make a first appearance of the season following his injury, and Porthmadog made a positive start.McGinness put in Owen at the back post, but he was denied by Roberts, who also saved from McGinness, but things then took a huge turn for the worse when the visitors made a rare push upfield.

From a high cross from the left, keeper Paul Pritchard pushed a header on to the bar, and Dale Davies on hand to head Corwen back into the lead on the hour.

Rhys Alun came on as sub and made his presence felt with some good breaks, but Port were unable to force an equaliser as Corwen held on for a hard-earned win.
