BOSS Gari Lewis reflected on another tough day at the office as nine-man Penrhyncoch slumped 5-0 at Huws Gray Cymru Alliance high fliers Caernarfon.

Red cards in each half for Sion James and Sion Meredith made a tough task virtually insurmountable for the injury-hit Roosters who remain fourth bottom in the table.

“Our luck’s out at the moment, and I’ve never seen anything like this in my time as manager,” admitted Lewis.“We had five out, then lost Corbs (Antonio Corbisiero) before the game, and had to bring in Nathan Warren who has a chest inflection.

“Then to have two players sent off against a side like Caernarfon, with their attacking prowess, made it really tough, and it became a defensive game for us.

“I couldn’t fault the effort and work of the lads, if they continue to show that for the rest of the season, we should be okay.”

He added: “We can’t feel sorry for ourselves, we’ve just got to keep going, and hopefully our fortune will change. But we’re on a tough run at the moment.”

The Roosters have a week off before their next action at home to Guilsfield on Saturday, 30 December, but they will be without the suspended trio of Rob Murfet, Sion James and Sion Meredith.

Meanwhile Steff Davies and Nashawn Blake are long term injuries, Matt Mousley is also on the casualty list, while Corbisiero was to have an X-ray this week to determine the extent of a foot injury.

Such are his limited selection options, that 43-year-old Lewis is pondering a return to the starting line-up next week.

Penrhyn keeper Leigh Jenkins was in fine form throughout against Caernarfon, pulling off a couple of good early stops before the league leaders took a seventh-minute lead through Clive Williams.

Penrhyn’s problems worsened when Sion James was sent off for a late challenge on Danny Brookwell, but thanks to Jenkins’ heroics it was still 1-0 at half time.

The Cofis doubled the lead on 67 minutes after Meredith kept out a goalbound Jamie Breese effort with his hand, and Nathan Craig converted from the spot.

Meredith’s handball resulted in a second dismissal for the visitors - his first ever red card - and Caernarfon took full advantage as former Llanidloes Town forward Breese added a third, before Gareth Evans made it 4-0 with a dink over Jenkins.

Ryan Williams rounded off the scoring as he curled in No 5 three minutes from time as the Cofis moved three points clear.

Although remaining fourth bottom, the Roosters can take comfort that they still have a five point lead on the side below them, Caersws, and there is a possibility only two teams will go down this season.
