BOW STREET Reserves moved two points clear of Bont at the top of the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League division one with a solid 5-0 home win over Aberystwyth University in their final game of the season last Thursday.

Two goals from Shaun Jones and singles by Stephen Harrison, Ryan Evans and Ian Evans sealed the three points for the Magpies, who won 15 of their 20 matches.

The result means long-time leaders Bont must win their final league match against Aberdyfi this Saturday if they are to win the title.

“We’ve done all we can now,” said Bow Street manager Rhodri Jones.“If Bont win the league on the last day, then congratulations to them, but I’m proud that our lads have fought back to challenge after Bont were 10 points ahead at one stage.”

Penrhyncoch Reserves notched their second win of the season on Saturday, courtesy of a 4-3 success over Borth United Reserves.

They took only 10 minutes to open the scoring when Liam Doherty scored from the penalty spot after keeper Matt Holmes was adjudged to have impeded him.

Borth then hit back when Jake Bush made headway into the Penrhyn penalty area and squared to Christian Jones, who beat the keeper with his low strike.

As half-time approached Scott Wilson put Borth ahead from the penalty spot, but Penrhyn got back on level terms when James Hughes-Pickering headed home from Matty Lewis corner.

Penrhyn then added a third as a through ball found Harri Horwood to slot home to make it 3-2 at the interval.

As the second half progressed, Steve Bailey made his way into the Penrhyn penalty area and slid a low shot into the bottom corner, but in the final minutes, Harri Horwood crossed to Ben Dimmack to score the winner from just a yard out.

Ryan Edwards scored four goals as Llanilar triumphed 4-3 against Tregaron Turfs, who replied with goals by Dylan Davies, Gareth Davies and Rhun Garner, with his 37th goal of the season.

Third-placed side Talybont bounced back from their 2-1 defeat to Bont in the Newman Memorial Cup Final in midweek by beating Padarn United 2-1, with goals from Bari Southgate and Jac Williams. Jason Davies replied

Anand Gill had scored five goals and George Taylor netted twice as Aberystwyth University Reserves hammered visitors Aberdyfi by 7-0 last Tuesday evening.

Llanilar meanwhile beat Penrhyncoch Reserves 4-1, with goals from Ryan Edwards, Guto Roberts, Rhys Morgan and Clive Morgan, whilst Nikki Jarvis replied.

Aberystwyth University Thirds will face Doglellau Reserves in the final of Cambrian Tyres Second Division Trophy at Park Avenue next Wednesday, 17 May (7pm).

The Aber students edged through their semi-final in midweek in a tense penalty shoot-out against Talybont Reserves, after the two sides had finished all square at 2-2 at the end of extra-time.

Talybont opened the scoring through a penalty converted by Jamie Evans, but Michael Cotter-Jones equalised to force extra-time.

Jamie Stuart then took the lead by converting a penalty for the students, but Talybont equalised with two minutes to go when Anthony Vasquez headed into the top corner from a flag kick.

The students, however, held their nerve to win the penalty shoot out 4-2, with successful spot kicks from Cotter-Jones, Liam Harrington, Jamie Stuart andDan Price, with keeper Tom Goodman saving twice.

They face Dolgellau Reserves in the final after they beat Llanilar Reserves 4-0, with goals from Iwan Lloyd, Mike Rees, Dylan Breeze and George Jackson-Townshend

On Monday evening Dolgellau Reserves had confidently beaten Padarn United Reserves 5-0 in division two, courtesy of goals from George Townsend, with a brace, Lee Riches, Mark Worsell and Keith Morris.
