HIGH-flying Dolgellau extended their lead at the top of the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth District League division one with a 2-1 success over local rivals Machynlleth Reserves.
Goals from Joe Ephraim and David Edwards made it seven wins from eight league matches, to move four points clear of Aberdyfi at the top.
Alex Davies netted for Machynlleth, who put up a very spirited performance, before succumbing to their 10th league defeat of their campaign.
Mach had ended their year on a high with a 1-0 win over Padarn United at Cae Glas on 28 December, with Harry Holt’s goal earning the home side their first league win of the season.
Talybont stayed within six points of the leaders, and with a game in hand, as they registered a hard earned 4-3 win at Tregaron Turfs on Saturday.
Goals from Connor Murphy, Callum Pritchard and Robbie Southgate had put Talybont ahead three times, only for the Turfs to keep hitting back with goals from Caradog Daniel, Daniel Owen and Caio Wyn ap Rhys.
The match seemed to be heading for a draw, until Bari Southgate scored the winner for Talybont right at the end, to gain a valuable three points.Read the full league round-up in the Aberystwyth edition
