TWO goals from David Edwards earned Dolgellau a 2-2 draw with visitors Aberystwyth University as they consolidated their top three position in the Spar Mid Wales League division two on Sunday.

A very bright start from the students had seen a speculative shot from Tom Spicer hit the crossbar, but minutes later Chris Warden netted their opening goal.

Dolgellau battled back and replied on 22 minutes when David Edwards sent Ieuan Brooks clear down the left, and when the keeper cleared from near the corner flag, Edwards found the net from 40 yards out.

Jon Sutton headed wide from close in for Dolgellau and Alistair Palmer forced a comfortable save from Darren Andrews, but it remained all square at the interval.

Edwards went close again in the second half for Dolgellau, but on the counter-attack Shaun Roberts headed just over.

Dolgellau were punished when Palmer was sent clear by a Spicer pass and he gave the on-rushing Andrews no chance as he put the visiting team back in front.

Within a minute, a strike from Brooks hit the crossbar, but when Dolgellau won a free-kick, Edwards’ hard and low strike rose over the Uni keeper and into the net.

A header by Warden struck post, but at the other end Sutton saw an effort deflected onto the post as honours ended even.

Aberystwyth University had put paid to Dyffryn Banw 2-0 on Saturday, as first half goals from Tom Spicer and Liam Powell were enough to see off the visitors.

After a slow start, the hosts were ahead on 25 minutes when Spicer outpaced the defence as he broke from half way before coolly slotting in from the edge of the box.

That lead was doubled 10 minutes later when winger Henry Nicholson crossed for Powell to provide a left-footed finish.

Borth United breezed through to the second round of the ER Jenkins Division Two Cup with a fine 3-0 win against Four Crosses at a sunny Uppingham Fields.

Borth opened the scoring when Liam Lewis made inroads into the Crosses defence, rounded the keeper and squared the ball for Ryan Davies to sweep home.

Both teams created good chances as the half progressed, but Borth extended their lead after the interval when Liam Berner scored with a low drive at the near post.

The visitors made an all-out assault to salvage the tie, but on the hour James Davies played a superb ball from midfield to Ryan Davies, who outsmarted the defence and converted with a neat chip.

Kerry edged a closely-fought 1-0 home win over local rivals Abermule, courtesy of a second half header by Mark Probert.

Max Mclaughlin scored four goals and Joe Haycock once as Churchstoke marched on with a 5-1 win over Newbridge, with Ashley Beach replying, whilst two goals from Josh Price and a Dave Thomas goal earned Newbridge a convincing 3-0 win at home to Penybont.

A Matt Strangwood penalty and a Josh Gardner goal saw Presteigne take Llansantffraid to extra-time, before the Saints prevailed 4-2, via Nathan Prodger (2), Toby Thomas and Nathan Buckley.
