HONOURS ended even in the last match of 2018 between Dolgellau and Borth United in an entertaining 3-3 draw in the MMP Mid Wales League division two.

Borth looked to be in control as goals from Josh Ferreira and Dion Ellis-Clark opened up a 2-0 lead, but Dolgellau hit back through David Edwards and Mark Bridge to level the scores.

The visitors though they had won it when Dion Ellis-Clark netted his second goal, but Edwards had the final say as he scored a late leveller.

Both teams had created good scoring chances as the first half progressed, with Dion Jones’ rasping shot being turned superbly for a corner by Justin Davies.

David Edwards’ low shot past the post was the pick of Dolgellau’s opportunities, but Borth also had their chances with the pace of Dion Ellis-Clark and Guto Huws a constant threat.

It seemed that the first half would remain scoreless, until Josh Ferreira’s low shot passed the Dol keeper for the opener, with only a minute remaining, gave the visitors a priceless lead.

Even though Dol had the better of the opening exchanges as the second half got underway, some of their finishing was disappointing and Borth’s attacks paid off on the hour.

Guto Huws fed the ball through to Dion Ellis-Clark, who saw his shot end in the back of the net via a slight deflection for a 2-0 lead.

Dolgellau, however, then raised their game and the ever-alert David Edwards weaved his way into the Borth defence and rounded keeper Davies to reduce the deficit with a cool finish.

With the hosts now in the ascendancy, a cross from the right wing allowed Mark Bridge to score with a towering header for the equaliser, and both teams pressed on for the winner.

Borth seemed to have secured the points when Jay Walker’s low shot was fumbled by the keeper and into the path of Dion Ellis-Clark to score with a low shot.

As full time neared, however, David Edwards equalized with a cool finish into the bottom corner for a 3-3 score at the final whistle.

Montgomery Town continued to set the pace at the top of the division two table as goals from Lee Jones, Tom Evans and Robbie Hartshorn secured a 3-0 win away at Newbridge.

Second-placed Hay St Marys maintained their own title challenge with a 3-1 win at Rhayader Town.

Brendan Hackett’s strike gave the visitors an interval lead, before the Red Kites hit back to level through a Taylor Wozencraft screamer just after the break.

Hay were not to be denied, however, with Jack Biggs netting from the spot after Matt James was impeded to restore their lead, before Adie Lawford added a third to settle the outcome with 10 minutes remaining.

Waterloo Rovers kept their promotion challenge on course with a 2-2 draw at home to Machynlleth.

Goals from Ryan Ellis and Charlie Proctor were not enough to secure victory for the Welshpool side as Simon Davies netted twice to ensure the visitors a point.

Ryan Davies and Ben Simms both scored hat-tricks as Four Crosses ended 2018 with a rousing 7-3 victory over Abermule, with Jamie Evans also on target. Ryan Wenban, with a double, and Dyfrig Rees scored for Mule.Twm Foulkes netted the winner as Dyffryn Banw ended the year with a 1-0 win at Presteigne.

• Meanwhile Knighton Town have applied for promotion back to the MMP Mid Wales League after quitting division one following a summer exodus.
