DOLGELLAU continued their winning momentum into 2020 at they notched a comfortable 5-1 win at Presteigne in the first match of the year in the MMP Mid Wales League division two last weekend.
David Edwards scored twice for Dolgellau, with Owain Williams, Jamie Jones and Tom Carr also getting onto the scoresheet.
Dolgellau had been unbeaten in the month of December, after they saw the year out with an excellent 2-0 win away at high-flying Penparcau, courtesy of winning goals by Jake Jones and Dion James.
Two days earlier, Dolgellau had also notched an excellent 3-3 draw with Machynlleth. The visitors had lead by three clear goals at Cae Marian, through Jake Jones, Charlie Owen and David Edwards, but a Jac Petrie goal and a Richie Evans double earned the draw.
Borth United began the New Year with a solid 2-1 win at Churchstoke in the MMP Mid Wales League division two - and they will hope to keep closing the gap on the teams in the top half of the table in 2020.
The Crows travelled with just the bare 11 players, but they looked comfortable early on and created some good chances, before taking a deserved lead on 35 minutes.
Matthew Lewis threaded the ball into Ryan Davies’ path, and he weaved his way passed three defenders and fired a left-footed shot into the bottom corner.
Borth increased their lead early in the second half when Bryn McGilligan Oliver’s driven corner allowed Clive Morgan to head home what was a decisive goal.
Churchstoke rallied and missed a great chance to halve the deficit with a missed penalty kick, but a second penalty was awarded five minutes later this time Jamie Betton converted to give the hosts hope.
Elsewhere in division two, Jake O’Donnell netted both goals as Forden United overcame Abermule 2-0 to move up to fifth place in the division two standings.
