DOLGELLAU made progress in the Spar Mid Wales League Cup as goals from Joe Ephraim, David Edwards and Ieuan Brooks earned a 3-2 win over Abermule.
The visitors, having lost 3-0 at the Marian two weeks earlier, with a much weakened side, had been keen for revenge.
Charlie Humphreys fired an early free-kick at home keeper Darren Andrews, but at the other end debutant Mike Rees flicked on to put Harri Davies clear, but keeper Lewis Jones saved with his foot.
The deadlock was broken by Dolgellau when Davies ran clear down the left and squared across goal for debutant Joe Ephraim to slide home from eight yards.
Five minutes later the impressive Dennis Bates forced a save from 25 yards, and from the ensuing corner, Keith Morris then saw his effort cleared off the line.
At the other end, Stuart Emberton had an effort headed clear by Tom Carr, and David Anthony shot straight at Andrews.
Then, on 38 minutes, Abermule netted their equalier, when a 25 yard effort from Tyler McCarthy found its way into the top left hand corner of the Dolgellau goal.
McCarthy fired another effort wide, but a minute later Mike Rees worked the ball down the right and played in Edwards, who ran in from the left to fire across goal and into the net, giving Jones no chance.
Edwards fired a chance just wide from a narrow angle, but Dolgellau did not have to wait too long after the break to score.
The newly introduced Ieuan Brooks ran onto an Andrews clearance, and rounded Jones to fire the ball into the top corner.
Mule almost closed the gap when Andrews palmed into the path of McCarthy, who fired over, and a Humphreys free kick was headed over by Adam Williams.
They were rewarded, however, on 63 minutes when Drew Cooke worked himself clear down the right and from his cross McCarthy side-footed into the net.
Abermule pushed on for an equaliser and three corners from McCarthy were cleared, but at the other end Man of the Match Edwards forced a save from Jones as Dolgellau marched to the next round.
Elsewhere, Bow Street made progress in the Spar Mid Wales League Cup as two goals from Tom Williams sealed a 2-0 success over division two outfit Churchstoke.
Richard Davies scored a hat-trick as Berriew marched on with a 4-1 win over Hay St Mary’s, with Steve Roberts also scoring, whilst Steve Morgan netted the reply.
Rhayader Town made progress as goals from Richie Powell, Tom Bethell and Gareth Hughes sealed a 3-1 win at Knighton, and Elliot Williams scored the winner as Llandrindod edged a 1-0 win over Kerry.
Borth United meanwhile returned to the top of the Spar Mid Wales League division two with a 4-1 win over Penybont, with in-form Ryan Davies scoring twice.
Liam Lewis and Liam Berner also netted, whilst Jake Bufton headed home for Penybont to make it 2-1 at the interval.
Aberystwyth University meanwhile maintained their upturn in fortunes with a dominant 3-0 win at home to Presteigne.
Top scorer Shaun Roberts gave them a 20th minute lead, and five minutes later, the impressive Alistair Palmer left the defence in his wake to double their lead.
After the interval, the students had three efforts cleared off the line, and Liam Powell also had an effort disallowed, before heading in the third in the 70th minute.
Elsewhere Aeron Powell and Ollie Woods scored hat-tricks as Newbridge beat Llansanffraid 6-2, with Ed Williams and Nathan Prodger replying, and Builth Wells drew 1-1 away at Four Crosses.
