DOLGELLAU booked their place in the semi-finals of the Spar Mid Wales League’s ER Jenkins Division Two Cup as they notched up a convincing 5-0 win over Builth Wells - with three goals in a six minute spell in the second period effectively sealing the tie.

The hosts opened the scoring when David Edwards’ inch-perfect pass landed at the feet of Dion Jones, who slotted past keeper Andrew Claridge.

Builth battled back to test Darren Andrews in the home goal, but at the other end Dominic Thomas looked a real threat, striking the woodwork.

Builth’s Josh Price pulled the ball back for Will Clayton to test Andrews, but at the other end David Edwards forced a save, before Dolgellau doubled their advantage on 65 minutes.

A Tom Carr through ball saw the ball break to Joe Ephraim and from 25 yards he expertly fired the ball over the stranded keeper for a 2-0 lead.

A through ball from Carr then sent Dominic Thomas clear, and after the ball was blocked, Ephraim’s shot was cleared off the line by Ryan Powell.

A minute later it was 3-0, however, as Ryan Thomas sent Jasper Jones clear and he squared to Dominic Thomas, who side-footed the ball into the net.

Three minutes later, Edwards sent Thomas clear and he squared the ball to Dion Jones, who scored with ease.

Edwards again set up Thomas, and he was denied by keeper Claridge, but on 80 minutes the ball broke to Jones, and he set up Dominic Thomas, who rounded the keeper to slot home.

Dolgellau will go on to face Aberystwyth University in the last four after the students produced a strong defensive performance to beat frontrunners Kerry on penalties at Dolforgan Park.

The Uni battled tirelessly in midfield to ensure that it remained goalless after 120 minutes of play, before finally taking the spot kick decider 5-4.

Working hard to contain the hosts, who dominated for long spells, the University carved a few chances, with Matthew Hunton having a couple of efforts saved while, in extra time, Henry Nicholson went close to winning it as his shot skimmed the goal post.

In the shoot-out, the students scored all five penalties, with debutant Morgan Brownlow netting the decisive kick, whilst impressive keeper Philip Liczyk pulled off one penalty save.

Borth United meanwhile travelled to Llangadfan to face Dyffryn Banw, and they came through for a 5-3 win to set up a semi-final tie with Churchstoke.

The Crows broke the deadlock when Ryan Davies fed the ball to Liam Berner, and his shot took a wicked deflection into the top corner of the net.

Banw replied, however, when Rhodri Davies cut in from the left and beat keeper Sean Gates with a right footed-shot that went in just inside the post.

The hosts then took the lead when Geraint Roberts scored from close range, and they held on to their 2-1 lead up until the half time interval.

It took Banw just five minutes of the second half to increase their lead as Jamie Huxley scored with a neat finish, but Borth raised their game as the half progressed to turn the tables.

Liam Lewis pulled one back with a right-footed shot and Lewis levelled late on to send the tie into extra time.

Borth keeper Sean Gates made a superb save to stop Geraint Roberts giving Banw the lead, but Borth went in front when Ryan Davies scored from the penalty spot after a handball.

As the hosts pressed forward in search of an equaliser, Borth made sure of winning the tie as Liam Berner crossed from the right wing to the far post and Davies scored their fifth goal.

Churchstoke booked their place in the last four with a solid 4-1 home win over Llansantffraid Village, courtesy of a hat-trick from Joe Haycock and a single goal from Max Mclaughlin. Bryn Jones netted the visitors’ reply.
