DOLGELLAU tightened their grip on the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League title as they followed up their 2-1 win over rivals Talybont with a 5-1 win over second-placed Averystwyth University Seconds in midweek.

Against Talybont, the league leaders took charge with goals either side of the interval through David Edwards and Dominic Thomas - but then Ben Hall’s headed goal from a corner for the visitors made it a very interesting last 15 minutes.

The Meirionnydd side then saw off the students 5-1 on Tuesday night, with Dominic Thomas scoring all five goals, whilst Shaun Roberts netted a consolation.

Last Friday, Aberystwyth University Seconds had moved second in the table after an emphatic 10-1 win at Penrhyncoch Reserves.

The goals were shared between Shaun Roberts, with a brace, two own goals, and efforts from Ynyr James, Sean Fahey, Tristan Harris, Liam Alejandro Jones, a 40 yard chip from Charlie Misell and a season’s first for skipper Stephen Foley.

The students, however, were held to a thrilling 4-4 draw at Aberdyfi in midweek. A hat-trick by Ynyr James and an Owain Llyr Morris goal a earned a point for the Uni, who have games in hand on the frontrunners.

Last weekend, goals by Paul Griffiths and Paul James earned Padarn United a 2-1 win over Tregaron Turfs, with Rhun Garner scoring for the Turfs. Padarn, however, lost 5-1 to Bow Street Reserves on Tuesday night.

Llanilar won 5-0 at Machynlleth last weekend, and followed that up with a 3-0 win at Borth United on Tuesday.

Aberystwyth University Thirds are through to the Newman Memorial Trophy semi-finals after ousting division one side Padarn United 4-1 last Tuesday night.

The Thirds looked in control from the off, and goals from Owen Whitmore, Niall Jones, Josh Price and Rian Devlin sealed their victory.

Borth United Reserves meanwhile booked their place in the final with a 3-1 semi-final win over Machynlleth Reserves, courtesy of goals from Ben Byrne, Scott Wilson and Rob Makaruk.

Last weekend, Division Two leaders Llanrhystud won 7-4 at Aberdyfi Reserves, courtesy of five goals from Liam Lewis and singles by Kyle Chillery and Dylan Jones. Richard Winchurch, John Horton, Mike Leuty and Mike Rees replied.

Llanrhytsud followed that up with a 4-3 win over Aberystwyth University Thirds on Tuesday, with goals from Liam Lewis, with a brace, Dylan Jones and Ben Lewis. Scott Rees and Gytis Pivnickas replied.

Dolgellau Reserves meanwhile won 5-1 away at Llanilar Reserves, with two goals from Tommy Redgrift and singles by Lee Riches, Iwan Lloyd and Mike Worsell.

In the Second Division Trophy Aber University Thirds won 4-0 at Padarn Reserves, with goals from Andy Whatty, Josh Price, David Esser and another Scott Rees penalty.
