LEADERS Bargod Rangers saw their unbeaten record in the Costcutter Ceredigion League division one come to a dramatic end as they were beaten 2-0 by Lampeter Town at Parc Puw, and this result offers renewed hope to the teams chasing them for the title.

Rangers have seen their lead over second-placed Newcastle Emlyn reduced to just six points, with the Reds having a game in hand, and still to play the leaders both home and away.

Lampeter were well worth their win in the end, with midfielders Jason Jones and Gethin Hunter getting the goals that secured them the points.

Newcastle Emlyn turned up the heat with a 3-0 win over relegation battlers Aberporth, and manager Steve Hicks must fancy his side’s chances of improving on last season when they were runners-up to Cardigan Town.

On target once again for the Reds was former Magpies striker Peter Almond, who bagged a brace, and there was also a goal for Chris Truslove.

New Quay were too good on the day for division two bound Pencader as they coasted home to a 5-1 triumph.

Former Cardiff City Academy player Ollie Evans struck twice for division two leaders Cilgerran in their 4-0 win over Newcastle Emlyn Reserves.

Evans, a brother of ex-Leeds United player Kevin Evans, is a former City teammate of Arsenal and Wales star Aaron Ramsey, and has only recently returned to after a spell down under.

Further goals followed by Justin Williams and Dan Bellis as the hosts moved a step closer to taking the title.

St Dogmaels Reserves had a 3-1 win over arch rivals Cardigan Reserves to push them up into a more respectable position, with goals from Chris Jones, Adam Betts and Jaymar Williams.

Dewi Stars returned to winning ways after recent cup defeats, to keep their promotion hopes on track with a 2-0 win at SDUC. First half goals from top scorer Steffan Owens and an Ifan Thomas header, both set up by Llyr Ebenezer, proved to be enough.

Ffostrasol meanwhile notched a solid 3-0 win over Lampeter Reserves.
