NEWCASTLE Emlyn produced an outstanding performance to comfortably defeat Montgomeryshire Amateur League side Four Crosses 5-0 in the Emrys Morgan Cup Final at Rhayader - and they remain on track for more silverware.

The Reds' success on Good Friday meant that they became the only Costcutter Ceredigion League club to have won the Emrys Morgan Cup, having previously lifted the silverware in 1992 and 1977.

Against Four Crosses, the Reds played some dazzling football at times, and the game was all over on the hour mark, with the Costcutter Ceredigion League division one side already four goals up.

A brace of goals from leading marksman Jake Kelly got the Parc Emlyn men off to a brilliant start, and one each for midfielder Craig Gordon, centre back George Lowry and outstanding wide man Dion Phillips in the second half completed a miserable night for Crosses.

The Costutter Ceredigion League has been represented in the Emrys Morgan Cup Final in the last eight seasons, with New Quay winning in 2011, Lampeter in 2014, Cardigan in 2015 and Llandysul in 2017.

The Reds had reached the final by beating Machynlleth Reserves, Cardigan, Knighton Reserves, Crannog, Ffostrasol and Lampeter.

They were due to face Llandysul in the Costcutter League Cup Final at Aberaeron on Easter Monday, but the match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, and will now be played in Aberaeron on 28 April.

The Reds are also in contention for the Costcutter Ceredigion League division one championship, the Cwpan Coffa Dai ’Dynamo’ Davies and the Bay Cup, in what could be a very historic year for the club.
