BALA Town have received a cash boost from Uefa’s Euro 2016 payout, for releasing Dave Artell to feature in the qualifying round of the tournament.

The Lakesiders will bank €21,069 from the appearance of former defender Artell, who was part of the Gibraltar squad which played in the same qualifying group as Germany, Poland, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland.

The payments cover the period from the start of qualifying for Euro 2016 back in September 2014, all the way through to the final stages in France, where Wales reached the semi-finals.

"It is important and fair to recognise and reward the clubs for the release of their players," said ECA Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

A former Rotherham United, Shrewsbury Town, Mansfield, Morecambe and Crewe player, Artell was called up by Gibraltar in February 2014, having qualified through his father.

He made his debut in the minnows’ second ever official match, a 4–1 friendly defeat to the Faroe Islands.

Players only have to be named in the 23-man matchday squads for their clubs at the time to qualify for payments but Artell, now manager at Crewe Alexandra, featured several times.

Artell made 37 (+2) Welsh Premier League appearances for the Lakesiders, scoring three goals, before a brief spell with Port Talbot Town.

He began his career with Rotherham United, as the Millers won successive promotions from the Third Division to the First Division in 2000 and 2001.

He joined Shrewsbury Town on loan for the 2002/03 season, before he signed with Mansfield Town for the 2003/04 campaign.

After two seasons with the Stags, he moved onto Chester City in July 2005, before joining Morecambe two years later

He joined Crewe Alexandra in June 2010, and captained the Railwaymen to victory in the 2012 League Two play-off final.

He signed with Port Vale in July 2012, but switched to Northampton Town the following month.

He then joined Wrexham on loan in February 2013, before joining the club on a permanent basis seven months later. He signed with Bala Town in summer 2014.
