BORTH United took their chances to register a 2-0 win over Churchstoke in their first home game in the Spar Mid Wales League division two this year.

After an evenly contested first half hour, Borth took the lead when some fine build up play on the right led to Christian Jones firing in a low shot beyond the keeper.

Ten minutes later a superb through ball from Ben Jones fell for Ryan Davies, who outsmarted the defender and scored with a low strike into the bottom corner.

The home team also saw Bryn Oliver’s volley rebound to safety off the crossbar, to leave Borth 2-0 ahead at the interval.

With the wind in their backs, Churchstoke began the second half in determined mood and they made good progress, especially down the left wing.

Their finishing let them down, however, and as the pitch began to cut up half chances fell for both teams, but Borth held firm to secure a solid home victory.See this week's Aberystwyth edition for the full report
