IT was a day of celebrations as Bala Town marked Stephen Fisher’s 12 years at the Club with a testimonial match against Caernarfon Town on Saturday.

Fisher had signed for the Lakesiders back in 2005 from Caernarfon, and has spent over a decade at Maes Tegid.

A left winger when he arrived at Maes Tegid, he transformed into a left back, and took over as team captain.

He was instrumental in Bala’s promotion winning season in 2009 from the Cymru Alliance into the Welsh Premier League.

Since then, he has become a key part of Colin Caton’s coaching team, having helped them achieve European qualification four times, as well as runners-up in the league twice and winning the Welsh Cup.

After a guard of honour and presentation pre-kick-off, Bala’s new signing Andrai Jones took just two minutes to open the scoring.

A corner from Nathan Burke was swung in deep towards the far post for new boy Jones to poke the ball home for the Lakesiders.

Bala doubled their lead on five minutes when Mike Hayes delivered the ball into the box and Jones brought down a header for Les Davies to swing his foot around the loose ball to make it 2-0.

Bala were looking sharp, and Burke pulled his shot wide of the upright, before finding big striker Davies, whose first time shot curled narrowly wide.

A low Burke drive was also saved, but Bala added their third goal midway through the half.

A fantastic ball from Will Bell picked out Hayes on the win and his cross was met with a perfectly timed header by Andrai Jones into the bottom corner of the net.

Before the interval, Bell and Hayes combined again for Davies to blaze over from eight yards.

The Lakesiders added an fourth goal after the interval when a stunning strike rattled the crossbar and came back out to Hayes. who headed home.

Man of the moment Fisher came on to play the remainder of the half, and Bala’s chances kept coming.

Davies headed wide from Burke’s corner, and a free-kick by Anthony Stephens was deflected wide for a corner, before a shot from Jones was saved by the goalkeeper.

Caernarfon, however, hit the base of the post from close range before scoring themselves on the hour when a looping back post header from Gareth Edwards found the back of the net

A brilliant through-ball from Fisher saw Hayes break into the box, but his shot smashed back off the base of the post, and a low strike from Burke on the edge of the 18 fizzed past the post.

With a few minutes left to play, Under-19s players Josh Jones and Tom Mann came on for their debuts for the Lakesiders.

In injury time however, Fisher conceded a penalty for handball, which Nathan Craig stepped up and poked the ball into the bottom left hand corner to make it 4-2.
