LLANYSTUMDWY hit the ground running, after five weeks without a match, as they registered a convincing 5-1 win against Holyhead Town’s expense in their Gwynedd League battle.

Aled Jones’ hosts at Dwyfor Park built a two-goal lead by half-time against their second-from-top opponents, who had won 11 of their previous 12 matches, suffering just the one defeat.

Regular marksman Sion Parry opened Llanystumdwy’s account on 21 minutes and Rhys Hughes doubled the advantage on 33, but Holyhead hit back two minutes into the second half through Jordan Murphy.

Llanystumdwy celebrated a timely third goal, thanks to Parry striking again on 52 minutes, and the home side’s right to the winners’ points was confirmed by Joe Soar and Darren Parry netting on 83 and 87 minutes.

Meanwhile Nefyn United scored first in their match at Waunfawr, but went on to lose 3-1 against opponents, with whom they had figured in a 2-2 draw at Cae’r Delyn in mid-October.

Guto Roberts enjoyed the goal in Nefyn’s brief purple patch on 14 minutes, but Waunfawr prevailed ultimately, as they provided replies by Ioan Gwynedd on 16 minutes, Sion Roberts on 27 and Rhys Davies on 88.

Llangoed just about won a Saturday evening floodlit match against Llanllyfni at Bangor City’s 3G facility by a 2-1 scoreline, the decider coming five minutes into added time by Craig Jones.

Basement strugglers Llanllyfni, who had lost all their previous 14 games, had taken the lead for a change through Justin Taylor on 48 minutes, but Llangoed’s Carl Pritchard equalised on 54 minutes, and the hosts’ winner followed late on.

The Gwynedd League fixture between Talysarn Celts and Menai Bridge Tigers had to be postponed, due to a waterlogged surface.

Meanwhile, the holders of the Safeflue Shield are out of the current competition, with Bontnewydd losing 4-3 at Bro Goronwy in a showdown between two of the league’s top three clubs.

The Moelfre hosts gained their goals from Connor Jones on nine minutes, Taylor Jones on 22, Andy Williams on 62 and Connor Jones on 78 from a penalty.

Bont finished one short, despite replies by Gareth Edwards on 40 minutes and Terry Jones on 86 and 90.

Gwalchmai featured a hat-trick by Mark Griffiths, when they won their Shield tie at Beaumaris Town 6-3, having come from behind.

Griffiths found the home team’s net on 25, 65 and 84 minutes for Gwalchmai and was joined by Craig Evans on 33, an own-goal on 65 and then Paul Evans on 82.

Beaumaris played their part with goals from Darren Lewthwaite on 18 minutes, Shaun Lock’s penalty on 75 and Chris Camilleri on 83.
