ABERYSTWYTH Town FC has parted company with highly-rated player Alhagi Touray Sisay, with the Spanish striker having signed for League Two club Grimsby Town.

The talented 20 year-old made a big impression during his short time at Park Avenue, and is set to become the latest player to step into the English professional ranks from the Cymru Premier.

“Everyone at Aberystwyth Town FC sends Alhagi Touray Sisay our best wishes as his football journey continues away from Park Avenue,” said a Club spokesman.

“Alhagi signed for Aberystwyth in January, and played six matches for the Seasiders, scoring four goals, before the COVID-19 pandemic brought the 2019/20 season to an abrupt end in March.

“He is big and strong, but he is also excellent with his feet, and he made a very big impression with us - including a hat-trick at home against Airbus in February.

“His contract with the Black and Greens came to an end in May, and he is now set to join other former Seasiders like Alex Samuel, Tom Bradshaw, Gwion Edwards and Rhys Norrington Davies in the English Football League.

“Alhagi became a popular figure during his brief time with us, and we’re pleased to have enjoyed his spell here.”

The powerful forward has joined Grimsby initially on a one-year deal, subject to international clearance, and he becomes manager Ian Holloway’s fifth summer signing.

“He’s 6 foot 4, he has got two real good feet, and he really wants to learn,” commented Holloway. “He speaks brilliant English, and I’m looking forward to working with him.

“His attitude seems fantastic, he was going to go to a Championship club last season, but there was a lot of compensation to his old club, so instead, he went to Wales, and now he is a free transfer.

“So I got him in, tested him on what I wanted to test him with, and I’m delighted that we have got him on board.”

The livewire striker said he was grateful to Aberystwyth for his time in the Cymru Premier league, and he couldn’t be happier at signing forms for the Mariners this summer.

“It’s a completely different environment, and a lot different to what I was used to last year,” he said. “The fitness levels and players I am playing with are at a higher level, but I’m loving it so far.

“When I found out that Ian Holloway wanted me, it was a big deal, with the clubs he has managed and the type of football he plays, and when he says he wants to work with you, it’s a real honour.”
