PENRHYNCOCH have been handed a pre-season boost with two new recruits putting pen to paper - while the highly-rated Carwyn Jones has confirmed that he is staying at Cae Baker.

The versatile duo of Luke Sherbon and Rhydian Davies have both joined from Caersws, adding to manager Gari Lewis’ options ahead of their forthcoming campaign in the HG Cymru Alliance.

“It’s great news for us, both can play in various positions, and they will add a lot next season,” said Lewis.

“Luke is delighted to be back with us. He’s had a brilliant career in the Welsh Premier, and has a lot of experience and know-how.

“He’s 31, and I’ve worked with him since he was 16. He still has a lot to give, and can play centre forward, centre midfield or even centre half if asked, so he will give us plenty of playing options.

“Rhydian also has a lot to offer, and can play anywhere across midfield, box to box. He is also a local lad, in his early 20s, and he is willing to learn. He will also be a very good team man.”

Luke Sherbon left Aberystwyth Town last year for Caersws, after spending a total of 14 seasons at the Welsh Premier League club.

The midfielder has also had spells at Barry and Rhyl, and played in Australia for Dandenong Thunder, before returning to Aber, where he became the club captain.

The former Wales Semi-Pro international won Aber’s Players’ Player of the Year in 2015, and represented them in the 2014 Welsh Cup Final, and played in the UEFA Europa League qualifiers. He made a total of 280 WPL appearances, scoring 62 goals.

Meanwhile Davies is an Aberystwyth Town Academy graduate, who made his debut for the Seasiders’ firsts as a sub, at the age of 16.

He made 11 Welsh Premier starts over four seasons, and was selected to play for Wales’ Semi Pro Under 18s, before leaving for Rhayader in search of regular football.

Another former Seasider, Sion James, has also committed to Penrhyn for another campaign, at the age of 38, while midfielder or central defender Carwyn Jones, who had been training with Porthmadog, has decided to remain with the Roosters.

“It’s fantastic news,” said Lewis on the Players’ Player of the Year. “He has been tremendously loyal as he could have gone for more money, and also less travelling. He had enjoyed a great season for us, and there will be a lot more to come from him.”

Keeper Leigh Jenkins is training with neighbours Aberystwyth and, should the Penrhyn stopper leave, Lewis has a couple of possible replacements in mind.

Midfielders Josh Shaw and Florin Burcea are both back in training after their injury problems to further boost the Roosters’ squad ahead of the forthcoming campaign.
