PENRHYNDEUDRAETH FC has revealed that former Porthmadog player Mike Foster has accepted the manager’s job, following the decision of Richard Davies and Andrew Jones to step down.

The 41 year-old former defender brings a wealth of experience to the position, and will be assisted by club captain Iwan Thomas at the Welsh Alliance club.

"The Club have moved quickly to appoint a new manager, to have the best chance possible to keep the talented squad that has been built over the past few years by ‘Fish’ and ‘Junior’," said a club statement.

"We are delighted and glad that Mike, who knows the majority of the current squad following his time as a player with the Club recently, has shown an interest in the position and has accepted the offer to take over as manager.

"Mike, who had made over 400 Welsh Premier League appearances for Porthmadog, Aberystwyth and Bangor, joined the Club at the start of the 2013/14 season, and went on to play 57 games before hanging up the boots last season."

A former Tranmere Rovers trainee, Foster had two spells at Porthmadog, having also played for Aberystwyth Town for two seasons.

A Welsh Under-21 cap, he spent 13 seasons in total at The Traeth, making a club record 371 Welsh Premier League starts.

Assisting Foster, as player/assistant manager will be current Club captain, Iwan Thomas.

Since joining in 2009, Thomas has appeared in 157 games for the Club, scoring 54 goals and lifting various cups as captain during this time.

Last month the Club announced that Richard Davies and Andrew Jones had decided to step down.

The duo, who steered the side to glory in this season’s Mawddach Challenge Cup, stood down after the last game of the season.

"It was with great reluctance that we announced the management team of Richard Davies (Fish) and Andrew Jones (Junior) had decided to step down from their roles,” said a club statement.

“The club would like to wish them both all the best for the future, and thank them for all their hard work and dedication.”

Penrhyndeudraeth finished last season in sixth position in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division one.
