FOUR former Haverfordwest County players have followed Aberystwyth Town’s new assistant manager Wayne Jones into Park Avenue.
Luke Borrelli, Sam Rodon, Greg Walters and Ricky Watts will all be a part of Matthew Bishop’s new-look side.
Striker Borrelli was the Bluebirds’ top scorer last term with eight goals, which included three goals against Aber.
A Boys’ Clubs of Wales international, he is a product of the Afan Lido youth system, and spent a season in the Welsh League with Pontardawe, before returning to the Marstons Stadium in July 2012.
The 25 year-old striker has scored 18 goals in 65 Welsh Premier League matches for Afan Lido, Port Talbot and Haverfordwest.
Meanwhile centre-back Rodon spent seven years at Swansea City’s Academy and was capped for the Welsh Schoolboys, and captained the Welsh Colleges U19s.
The 23 year-old defender joined Haverfordwest County from West End in 2013 and quickly became a firm favourite at the Pembrokeshire club, winning the players’, manager’s and supporters’ player of the year awards.
“Both myself and Matthew have been in discussions ever since we joined the club about personnel to bring to the club,” said assistant manager Jones.
“We want a young and hungry side that will be competitive for Aberystwyth, and these players fit that billing.”
Full back Ricky Watts, who has also won player of the season awards for the Bluebirds and was almost ever-present last term, and midfielder Greg Walters, a product of the Haverfordwest County youth system, who has represented the Welsh U18s team, have also joined the Seasiders.
Tregaron-based Cledan Davies has meanwhile joined both Luke Sherbon and Chris Venables in re-signing for Aberystwyth for next season.
“We’re delighted to have someone of Cledan’s ability on board, especially because he’s a local lad,” said assistant boss Jones.
“We are working hard with the academy right now, from Under 8s right through to get a feeling of unity in the camp, so that we can create a pool of local talent at Aber.
“Hopefully in a few years, there will be a big pool of Ceredigion based players to choose from.”
Meanwhile local stalwart Sion James has become the seventh player to leave Park Avenue this summer.
The 35 year-old from Penrhyncoch has spent 12 consecutive seasons at Park Avenue, racking up 330 Welsh Premier League starts.
"After 12 amazing years at Aberystwyth Town, I’ve decided to move on, thank you to the players, staff and fans for everything," James said on Twitter.
It has already been reported that Craig Williams and Ross Stephens have joined Newtown, Stuart Jones has signed for Bala, Lee Surman has joined Carmarthen, Rhys Griffiths has become player-manager of Penybont and keeper Mike Lewis has also left.
