LLANIDLOES Town returned to winning ways with a comfortable 4-0 home success over Tywyn Bryncrug, to cement their place in the upper echelons of the MMP Mid Wales League division one.
It was a solid response after suffering their first loss of the campaign against Radnor Valley, and put the Daffs in good heart for their midweek clash with Waterloo Rovers in the second round of the FAW Trophy (Wednesday, ko 7.30pm).
Victory against Tywyn took Llanidoes up to third position, four points adrift of leaders Caersws, with a game in hand.
“We started well and got an early goal, but then switched off for 20 minutes,” said manager Hugh Clarke. “But we were decent in the second half, and it was as comfortable as we’ve seen this season.
“We’ve got Waterloo on Wednesday, and just want to get through, whether it’s one goal or whatever. We’re good enough to do well in the cups this season.”
Debutant Llion Rhys Jenkins, a new midfielder from Bow Street, gave Llanidloes an early lead against Tywyn with a smart finish from a Ryan Biggs cross.
With keeper Aaron Warrick rarely troubled, the Daffs then took charge after the break as assistant boss Adam Worton doubled the lead with his first goal for the club following a goalmouth scramble.
A third came when a cross from Rhys D Evans was turned into his own net by a defender, before George Clarke - who misses Wednesday’s game - latched onto a through ball before firing into the bottom corner with an excellent strike.
Llani have no action on Saturday after struggling Knighton Town withdrew from the league. It also means their 5-0 win against the same opponents earlier in the campaign has now been erased.
Bow Street’s winless start to the season continued as they were beaten 2-0 by Llandrindod Wells, where goals from Robert Nicholls and Shane Pritchard got the Wellmen back to winning ways.
Two goals by Joe Haycock and one from George Davies ensured that Berriew notched a 3-1 win over Aberaeron, despite being down to 10 men second half. Gareth Lewis scored for the visitors
A dead ball hat-trick by Luke Mumford, including a superb free kick into the stanchion, earned Kerry a 4-3 derby win at Churchstoke, with Cenwyn Jones also scoring. Kieran Mulloch netted twice for Stoke, with Ed Marsdon also on target.
On Friday night, early pacesetters Caersws and Llanfair United both lost their 100 per cent winning starts in a 1-1 draw, but both teams still remained unbeaten.
Josh Astley gave Llanfair the lead but Bluebirds’ top scorer Elliot Jones equalised with his eighth goal of the season.
Builth Wells put in an excellent second half performance to run out 3-0 winners against Welshpool Town, as a brace from Luke Hicks on his league debut and one from Brad Rollinson sealed their first win.
