Aberystwyth Town 2 Haverfordwest County 2

FULL TIME

Aberystwyth were looking to bring down the curtain on their Park Avenue campaign with a flourish against The Bluebirds tonight.

But they were twice pegged back in the first half and were kept at bay after the break despite mounting pressure as the half wore on.

A scrappy start to the game saw both teams struggle to get to grips with heavy West Walian winds but The Seasiders surged on eight minutes with a sublime goal.

Central defender Louis Bradford threaded a ball through to Owain Jones who spotted the keeper off and calmly clipped the ball into the back of the net from over 30 yards out.

At the other end, County had their first attempt on goal when ex-Seasider Elliot Scotcher fired a free kick into the hands of Connor Roberts.

The visitors were growing into the game without troubling the home keeper before Jamie Reed tried to double the Black & Greens tally with a volley that sailed wide.

County should have been back on level terms on the half hour when Scott Tancock headed straight at Roberts after good work by Scotcher but equalised moments later, Jack Wilson running on to a low cross to finish in the bottom corner.

Reed nearly restored the hosts lead when he fired another effort wide but he made amends two minutes from the interval, smashing home a penalty after Harry Franklin was scythed in the area.

However, there was still time for Haverfordwest to reply, Danny Williams waltzing through the defence to curl a fine finish into the far corner.

After the goal flurry at the end of the opening period it was a quieter start to the second stanza with nothing to report until 65 minutes when a fantastic last-ditch tackle on the goal line from Louis Bradford kept the scores level.

At the other end, Mathew Jones found Marc Williams but the skipper’s edge-of-the-box effort skewed wide.

More Aber chances followed, Lee Jenkins flicking on a long throw at the near post but there was nobody to meet his ball at the back post.

A minute later substitute Jonathan Evans delivered a cross to the back post which was palmed away for a corner by keeper Wojciech Gadja.

The pressure was mounting with Franklin firing a first-time effort over the bar after being set up by Bradford.

But the hosts failed to make the breakthrough after a thoroughly entertaining encounter.
