FULL TIME

ABERYSTWYTH missed a chance to pick up three points when they failed to score against Flint despite the Essity Stadium hosts playing the second half with 10 men.

An uneventful first half sparked into life when the home side’s Josh Amis was red carded for a poor challenge on Jamie Veale with seconds remaining.

Keen to reap the rewards of their numerical advantage, Gavin Allen’s men nearly opened their account on 48 minutes.

Louis Bradford’s header found Jon Owen whose flick set up Mathew Jones, but the Aber man couldn’t keep his shot down and the ball flew over the bar.

The Seasiders kept plugging away but they struggled to pry open the Silkmen’s rear guard.

They had to wait until the hour mark for their next opportunities, Ian Kearney heading wide from a corner and Jamie Veale’s attempted cross to Franklin in a promising position blocked by Ben Nash.

Flint were still making a fight of it and fashioned their own chance, Morgan Jones heading wide after a good spell of pressure.

Gavin Allen’s men then had a sustained period of control culminating in Jon Owen forcing Rushton into action to keep the tie level.

They kept on pushing for a late winner but the match petered out with honours even.

There was little to choose between the two teams in the opening 45 minutes with both sides struggling to create clear-cut openings.

The visitors started brightly with a couple of early openings, defender Louis Bradford firing over following a corner and Johnny Evans forcing home keeper Jon Rushton into a decent save.

At the other end, Flint created their first opportunity on 10 minutes when Eddie Clarke took on his man but screwed his effort just wide on his weaker foot.

The home side threatened again when Morgan Jones and Callum Bratley fired wide and Connor Roberts had to be alert to keep out Ross Weaver’s effort.

The best chance of the half came on 30 minutes and it fell to Aber, Harry Franklin blazing over the bar after being played through on goal, before going into the referee’s notebook four minutes later for a late challenge.
