Barry Town 6 Bala Town 2

FULL TIME

Bala were hit for six in their third consecutive JD Cymru Premier defeat as Barry recovered from an early setback for a comfortable win.

It had all started so well for the Lakesiders - possibly stung into action by manager Colin Caton’s criticism of recent performances - surging ahead after just two minutes at Jenner Park.

Antony Kay’s header back across goal found hotshot Chris Venables, who had a simple header to put the visitors ahead.

But Barry were back level on 12 minutes, Kayne McLaggon with a fine header after Shaun Kelly had cleared the initial danger from a corner.

And the Jenner Park hosts pushed ahead three minutes later, Evan Press heading home a free kick, after poor marking by Bala.

The visitors needed a much improved performance after the break, but Barry tightened their grip on the contest with a third goal on 51 minutes, left back Chris Hugh with an easy run in on goal after another mistake at the back from Bala.

It could have been even worse for Town moments later when Alex Ramsay saved a Jordan Cotterill effort after another defensive lapse at the back.

And the keeper foiled the same man again before the hour mark, another shot saved and the ball then cleared off the line by Shaun Kelly.

The pressure was building and Bala caved in again on 65 minutes, McLaggon with an acrobatic finish for his second of the game.

Four goals conceded soon became five, Press grabbing his brace with a cool finish after McLaggon’s initial attempt was blocked.

Credit to Bala, they pulled one back on 73 minutes when Kieran Smith was presented with a tap-in, but Barry netted their fourth goal of the half on 80 minutes, Curtis Hutson unleashing a fantastic shot into the bottom corner after controlling the ball expertly on the edge of the area.
