FULL TIME
MUCH improved Aberystwyth were hoping to make it nine points out of nine at Park Avenue since the JD Cymru Premier restart, but had to settle for a share of the points against high flyers Penybont.
The Seasiders shaped up as the better outfit for periods of a competitive contest against their fourth-placed opponents and took a deserved lead on 33 minutes before being pegged back after the break.
Having netted the winner against Newtown last week, Harry Franklin scored his second goal for Aber with another sublime finish.
Put clear through down the left after hesitancy by Penybont, he took a couple of touches before sending an unerring right-footed finish low into the far corner, giving the keeper no chance.
Penybont had a penalty shout waved away early in the second half as they set out to restore parity but they nearly fell further behind on the hour, when Lee Jenkins latched on to Matty Jones’ far post corner and fired against the post.
That miss proved costly for Aber as Bont drew level moments later, Mael Davies finding space in the box to slot past Connor Roberts.
Encouraged by the goal, the visitors enjoyed a strong spell with Lewis Harling forcing Roberts into action but resolute Aber moved through the gears again with Lee Jenkins’ looping header tipped over by Ashley Morris.
And from the resulting corner, two big chances fell to substitute Jon Owen and Jack Thorn who fired wide.
At the other end, Oli Dalton blazed wide and Davies nearly grabbed his brace, screwing an effort wide as the visitors went in search of a winner.
They nearly found it on 85 minutes, Mason Jones-Thomas with a stinging effort which was superbly tipped over by Roberts.
While Aber thought they had a winner two minutes from the end of normal time, Jenkins setting up substitute Jonathan Evans who tried to dink the ball over the keeper but Morris gathered
The hosts ended the match with 10 men after Gwion Owen was shown a second yellow card after coming on as a substitute on the hour.
