Gavin Allen has stepped down as Aberystwyth manager.

He announced the news in a twitter post on Monday: “After several years involved with Aberystwyth Town men’s 1st team and last season as manager, I’ve made the difficult decision to resign to pursue new management opportunities.

“I will however continue to work for the club in my full time role as head of coaching and youth.

“Big thanks to all players and staff who’ve supported me over the years.

"Whilst this season hasn’t ended how I had hoped, it’s been a fantastic experience which I have learned a lot from.”

After a poor run of results and a difficult period for the club Allen had offered his resignation as first team manager back in December 2020, which the club initially accepted.

But in January the club made it clear that Gavin would remain in position.

A club statement said at the time: "Given the extraordinary circumstances we find ourselves in with relation to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have reassessed the situation and agreed with Gavin that he will remain in place as first team manager of Aberystwyth Town FC.

"We thank him for his cooperation in this matter."
