GEOFF Kellaway scored a memorable hat-trick as Aberystwyth Town ripped up the form books to register a stunning five-goal triumph over Carmarthen Town at Richmond Park on Tuesday night.
Luke Borrelli had fired the Seasiders into an interval lead, before Kellaway doubled the advantage - and despite Borrelli being sent off for a second yellow card - a late flurry of goals by Kellaway and Kurtis March completed a remarkable victory.
It was the perfect tonic after four heavy defeats on the bounce, and their celebrations at the final whistle showed what it meant to all involved at the club.
For the first time in several weeks Aber manager Matthew Bishop had a full squad to choose from - although Sam Rodon was injured in the warm up, to be replaced by the returning captain Luke Sherbon.
Keeper Chris Mullock, on loan from The New Saints, came straight into the starting side, and he imposed himself immediately with a commanding performance.
The Seasiders took the lead in the 11th minute when a Ricky Watts throw-in from out on the right wing fell for Borrelli, and the Llanelli livewire swivelled on a sixpence to send a low strike under Lee Idzi.
Liam Thomas headed over from a corner for Carmarthen, but up the other end Borrelli chested the ball down for Kellaway to fire just wide of the target.
Next danger man Kellaway went on a thrilling burst down the right side and then set up Chris Jones, but he was denied by the Carmarthen keeper.
Further Aberystwyth chances saw Borrelli fire just wide of the post, and Greg Walters cantered into the box, only to be denied at the last minute.
Carmarthen’s one dimensional tactics were neutralised by a strong defensive performance by Will Bell and Ryan Wollacott, and in a first half of few chances Aber certainly deserved to go in a goal ahead.
The hosts threatened a comeback after break, but at the other end the returning Joe Clarke won a corner, which Jones sent in and Wollacott headed just past the post.
Borrelli was working his socks off up front for Aberystwyth, and was very unfortunate to be mistakenly yellow-carded for handball by referee Huw Jones.
But then came the game changing moment on 59 minutes, as Walters gambolled down the left flank and his cute through ball found Kellaway on an angled run to slot home with a thrilling strike.
Wollacott had a goalbound header deflected wide, but then on 66 minutes a flashpoint saw yellow cards shown to Carmarthen’s Dwaine Bailey and Kieran Lewis - and a second yellow for Borrelli.
Ten-man Aberystwyth made the best of things, and within five minutes Kellaway burst down the left wing to send in a cross which was turned in by the gleeful March.
Kellaway then dispossessed Vincent and nearly grabbed a fourth, but with 11 minutes left Chris Jones released him down the left and he blasted home for a 4-0 lead.
Aber’s euphoria was still not yet complete and in the 87th minute Chris Jones’ shot was parried by Idzi, and the clinical Kellaway crowned a superb individual performance by firing his third goal from 10 yards. After a tough couple of weeks for Matthew Bishop's side, the Seasiders will be hoping to build on this win when they travel to face Cardiff Met this Saturday.CARMARTHEN: L Idzi, D Bailey, J Knott, D Vincent, L Surman, C Hanford (D Thomas 72), C Morgan, K Lewis, M Jones, D Carroll (M Thomas 63), L Thomas (R Cole 75).
