A SUPERB 25 yard volley from club stalwart Geoff Kellaway finally put an end to Aberystwyth Town’s seven match losing streak, and earned a thoroughly deserved 1-1 draw at home to Llandudno on Friday evening.

On a chilly evening, the Seasiders had rang the changes, giving debuts to Marc Williams and Carwyn Jones, and recalling keeper Terry McCormick, Alan Goodall, Lee Jenkins and Ash Ruane.

Early chances saw Aber’s Matthew Jones play a neat ball to Ruane, whose low goalbound drive was gathered by Shaun Pearson in the visitors’ goal.

Les Davies blasted over for Llandudno, but then new signing Jones was the next to test keeper Pearson with a low drive.

Williams was prominent for Aberystwyth, dropping deep to pick up the ball, and bringing others into play as he excelled in the No 10 role.

Toby Jones fired over for Llandudno, but they got a lucky break when George Harry’s low drive from the edge of the area took a big deflection and hit the net.

Jones sent in another cross which Williams glanced wide, and Declan Walker aimed a long range drive straight at the keeper, but Aber went in at the half-time break a goal down and under pressure.

The hosts pressed again in the second half, with Jones again setting up a Williams header to force a save from Pearson.

Alun Webb sent a shot wide, but at the other end Leigh Jenkins had a shot deflected for a corner, before Kellaway sent a fine volley inches wide from 30 yards.

Williams hit the post with a curling shot and Matthew Jones fired wide, but Aber had a let off when Toby Jones’ goal was chalked off for offside, and McCormick pulled off a great save to deny Webb.

Then, with 13 minutes to go, Kellaway, pulled out a brilliant low drive from 30 yards to equalise with a vital equaliser.

In an exciting last 10 minutes sub Ryan Edwards sent a volley just wide, and Marc Williams saw a shot deflected for a corner, but Llandudno enjoyed late pressure as Harry sent a shot narrowly wide, and Steffan Edwards denied Toby Jones at the death with a goal line clearance.
