NEW signing Ioan Humphreys netted the winner as Carno hit back twice from being behind to record a 3-2 extra-time win at Mid Wales League rivals Bow Street in the FAW Trophy third round.

The fixture had been switched to Bow Street’s Cae Piod - and there was little between the sides in a goalless first half.

It was the Magpies who opened the scoring five minutes after the interval through Guto Roberts, but Carno hit back to level the scores through a Geraint Jones penalty, before Bow Street then got themselves back in front through Garmon Nutting’s goal for the hosts.

Despite having Callum Breese red-carded, 10-man Carno hit back as a Daniel Lewis goal forced extra-time, and it was Humphreys, on his return to the club from Caersws, who finally sealed the win.

It was a great start to Gwynfor Edwards’ tenure as first team manager of Carno, and he hopes to see an upturn in fortunes at the Club in the run-up until Christmas.

The former Llandysul boss helped the Swallows to three Cup finals last season, winning the Costcutter Ceredigion League Cup and the Bay Cup, and was also assistant manager at Aberystwyth Ladies, who won the Welsh League title. The ambitious Llanelli-based coach, who was formerly manager of Kidwelly Town, replaced Chris Davies at the Carno boss.

“I had really enjoyed my time at Llandysul, and I’m now looking forward to this new challenge at Carno,” said Edwards. “I’d like to thank Llandysul for being understanding, and being an absolutely wonderful club to work with, but the opportunity at Carno was too much to resist.

“Carno are such an established club with so much potential, and tremendous ambition. We’ve got to start by steadying the ship, and then we’ll set about doing the only thing I strive to do in football, which has always been to play better football.”

He added: “The boys worked their socks off to get the win against a strong Llanidloes side in the last round, and that demonstrated to me that they are dangerous. They love a Cup game, and so do I. We’ve been raring to go since I arrived. It will be a difficult task, but we want it.”

Despite losing players, including Andy Evans, who has signed for Berriew, and Richie Evans, who joined Machynlleth, Ioan Humpreys, Ryan Clemson, Samuel Jones, Rob Davies and Dan Rowlands have all signed for Carno in recent weeks.

Elsewhere in the FAW Trophy, Mid Wales division two leaders Penparcau bowed out of the competition with a 3-2 defeat away at division one side Berriew.

Mathew Davies and Ryan Edwards got on the scoresheet for Penparcau, but goals from Richard Davies, with a brace, and Joe Haycock steered the hosts into the last 32 of the competition - and they are one of four Mid Wales clubs still flying the flag.

Joey Price starred with a hat-trick as Radnor Valley prevailed 5-4 extra-time winners at Caersws to book their place in the fourth round on Wednesday evening.

A Jamie Hyne double and strikes by Mark Edmondson and Peter Rees were not enough for Caersws, as Price sealed their victory with a hat-trick, with Geraint Lloyd and Matthew Venables also netting.

Welshpool Town made light work of Four Crosses as they registered a 6-1 win at Maesydre in their midweek match. Will Thomas and Ricky Litchfield completed doubles, with James Clewlow and Ian Probert also netting for the Lilywhites.
