HALF TIME
Aberystwyth are out to beat Flint this afternoon to overtake their Essity Stadium hosts to fourth place in the Cymru Premier’s Playoff Conference.
But there’s little to choose between the two teams at the break with both sides struggling to create clear-cut openings.
However, Aber were given a boost on the stroke of half time when Josh Amis was given his marching orders for a poor challenge on Jamie Veale.
Aber started brightly with a couple of early openings, defender Louis Bradford firing over following a corner and Johnny Evans forcing home keeper Jon Rushton into a decent save.
At the other end, Flint created their first opportunity on 10 minutes when Eddie Clarke took on his man but screwed his effort just wide on his weaker foot.
The Silkmen threatened again when Morgan Jones and Callum Bratley fired wide and Connor Roberts had to be alert to keep out Ross Weaver’s effort.
The best chance of the half came on 30 minutes and it fell to Aber, Harry Franklin blazing over the bar after being played through on goal, before going into the referee’s notebook four minutes later for a late challenge.
Aber: Connor Roberts, Louis Bradford, Lee Jenkins (c), Ian Kearney, Harry Franklin, Mathew Jones, Jamie Veale, Jon Owen, Rhys Davies, Jonathan Evans, Jack Thorn Subs: Alex Pennock, Marc Williams, Owain Jones, Jamie Reed, Jack Rimmer
