Newtown 0 v Aberystwyth Town 1

HALF TIME

ABERYSTWYTH are looking to finish their season with aplomb against Newtown who have already secured a playoff spot.

And the Seasiders are a goal to the good at the break having also fashioned several other decent goalscoring opportunities.

The opening exchanges were evenly contested with Jonathan Evans’ flicked header forcing home keeper Khamran Steventon into action while, at the other end, Louis Bradford pulled off a last ditch challenge to divert the ball out for a corner.

Good play by Evans down the left flank on 17 minutes allowed him to put a teasing cross into the box but no one was able to get a telling touch.

The visitors were shaping up as the better outfit and made the breakthrough on 22 minutes, Mathew Jones sending the keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot.

The Black and Greens continued to bomb forward and only the woodwork denied them on the half hour, Evans breaking through but his chip hit the bar.

And he went close again a couple of minutes later with a deft header which landed on the roof of the net.
