BALA Town eased into second round of the Nathaniel Cars League Cup as goals from Mike Hayes, Keiran Smith and Chris Venables sealed a 3-0 win over Cymru Alliance side Guilsfield at Maes Tegid.

After a bright start from the visitors, Bala began to assert authority as Ian Sheridan’s low drive went across the face of goal with no-one able to capitalise.

The Lakesiders took the lead on 19 minutes when a quick break saw Steven Tames keep the ball alive and set up Mike Hayes, who cut into the area powered strike into the top corner of the net.

Kieran Smith headed over from close range after a delivery from Andrew Burns, as well as flicking another chance wide of the far upright.

Four minutes before the interval, a cross from the left arrived to an unmarked Tames, but his chance from 10 yards rattled the crossbar, although the Welsh Premier League side looked comfortable at the interval.Bala cranked up a couple of gears in the second half, with Tames placing a chance wide, but on the hour Bala went 2-0 up. Some scrappy defending allowed the ball to reach Smith, and he got the vital touch.

From the restart, Smith almost made it 3-0 when he hit the woodwork, but seven minutes later, Bala killed off the tie. Ian Sheridan was brought down in the area, and Chris Venables slotted home the spot kick.
