BALA TOWN were left stunned as bottom of the table Carmarthen Town, on the back of four straight defeats, punished the Lakesiders for a lacklustre display with a 4-0 victory at Maes Tegid.
Colin Caton’s men were a goal down inside the first two minutes as Kostya Georgievsky headed home unmarked at the far post - and the Old Gold added another on the quarter hour as Kieran Lewis fired a 25-yard free-kick into the top corner of the net.
Chances of a comeback were ended in the 76th-minute when Dave Vincent fired home from close range, and Liam Griffiths added a fourth, before Bala had Les Davies sent-off for a second yellow card.
The margin of defeat equalled the Lakesiders’ worst-ever in the Welsh Premier defeat at Maes Tegid, against Rhyl in 2009.“We were bad from the first two minutes when we gave a goal away, and chasing the game we got picked off,” said Caton.
“We were poor, and they thoroughly deserved it. It was a bad day at the office, and not good enough by our standards.”
Carmarthen were quick out of the blocks as Kieran Lewis sent a searching cross deep into the goalmouth, where Kostya Georgievsky arrived with perfect timing to plant a firm header past home keeper Ashley Morris and into the roof of the net.
Bala responded with Jordan Evans firing a low cross into the crowded penalty area where the ball fell nicely for Les Davies, but from eight yards he struck it over.
In the 14th minute, however, Jordan Knott won a free-kick just outside the box, and Lewis stepped forward and drove the ball around the defensive wall and into the top corner, with Morris well-beaten.
The Lakesiders again pressed forward and Evan Horwood sent a free-kick into a packed penalty area, but Stuart Jones’ close-range header struck the crossbar.
Carmarthen’s Williams surged forward to unleash a fierce drive that Morris resisted, but when Bala striker Davies drove the ball across the goalmouth, Andrai Jones fired his effort wide of the post.
After the interval, Liam Thomas hit a stunning drive that Morris tipped just over the bar, and from the resultant corner-kick Georgievsky then saw his close-range shot diverted away by a defender.
Bala stepped up, but the visitors counter-attacked well and a corner reached Williams, who produced an audacious overhead-kick that skimmed the bar.
Then, in the 77th minute, the Old Gold put the result beyond doubt with a third goal as Vincent was perfectly placed to drive the loose ball home from a corner.
Bala went close on 84 minutes as a long ball from midfield reached Andrai Jones out wide in the penalty area, but his angled strike crashed against the far post.
They were punished again the 87th minute as Lewis, from the left touchline, sent a high cross towards the far post where substitute Liam Griffiths leapt high above Morris to head in from close-range.
If that were not bad enough for Bala, Davies, in the space of 60 seconds, contrived to get himself booked twice for separate incidents, leading to his sending-off.
