HONOURS were shared in the top of the table clash between Newcastle Emlyn and Lampeter as they drew 2-2 in an action-packed Costcutter Ceredigion League division one battle.
Missed first half chances proved costly for the Reds when Lampeter opened the scoring in style through Jason Jones, but Daniel Jones hit back to equalise just after the break, and Jake Kelly scored from the penalty spot, to put his team ahead.
Lampeter pushed forward, however, and they bagged an equaliser with five minutes to go through Gareth Williams.
Felinfach provided a shock as they defeated defending champions Llandysul 4-2, for the Swallows’ second defeat.
The deadlock was broken on the half hour when Joe Jenkins cut inside and released Rhys Davies, who bent a curling effort passed the Llandysul keeper.
They doubled their lead when Lee Forrester picked the ball up after a deep corner and drove a vicious strike through the keeper’s legs from an acute angle.
Joe Jenkins also hit the post for the hosts, but after the break Jenkins flicked the ball on to front runner Owain Dafydd, who rounded the keeper to make it 3-0.
The Swallows replied within a few minutes when Adrian Hazelby netted, and although a straight red card was shown to Ben Thomas for use of the elbow, Llandysul pulled a second goal back when Dean Jones fired home from close range.
The visitors pushed hard for an equaliser, but a late penalty tucked away by Eilir Evans sealed a well deserved win.
Dewi Stars were left kicking themselves after letting a three goal lead slip, to share the spoils in a 3-3 draw with Cardigan.
Rhodri Edwards brilliantly saved Liam James’ penalty at full stretch, but Stars broke forward and Steffan Owens crossed for Ifan Thomas to open the scoring.
The Stars doubled their lead on the stroke of half time when Ifan Thomas released Daniel Owen to score a low drive.
The second half followed the same pattern, as the home team dominated and when Siencyn Jones found Ifan Thomas free on the edge of the box the striker hit a low drive into the bottom corner for 3-0.
Cardigan were awarded a controversial penalty when a defender ran into a player in an offside position, and this time Josh Mellor stepped up and made no mistake.
Five minutes later Mellor found space in the box to score, and Cardigan then snatched an unlikely point when a long ball over the top allowed Liam James to chance to make amends for his earlier penalty miss with the decisive equaliser.
The Stars, however, could have won it in the dying minutes as a rasping 30 yard low shot by skipper Gethin Thomas was brilliantly turned round the corner by Steff Marston, and from the resulting corner Deian Williams headed inches wide.
St Dogmaels meanwhile produced an excellent all-round display to beat Crannog 5-2 at the School Field, to keep tabs on the early frontrunners in division one.
It was the visitors who opened the scoring with their only shot of the half, before John Midgley grabbed an equaliser.
Mindugas Simkevicius then fired the Saints ahead after the break and further goals from Justin Smith, from a corner, Rhys Jones and a wonder strike by man of the match Dan Jones sealed the win.
Cilgerran enjoyed a comfortable 4-1 win over Ffostrasol at Parc y Dre, with their best performance of the season so far.
Striker Marcus Dean put the hosts ahead when he headed home a Mike Diggle free kick, and Dean then turned provider as his cross was headed in by Oli Evans.
Diggle then made it 3-0 soon afterwards when he ran through on goal for one on one with the keeper, to kill off the game.
Ffostrasol, who have yet to register a point this season came back strongly after the break and they scored a consolation effort, but a goal from substitute Tommy Furbear completed the scoring at 4-1.
