LAMPETER Town have moved into pole position in the Costcutter Ceredigion League title race, and they looked a good bet to go all the way as they registered a hard-fought 2-1 win over St Dogmaels at the School Field last weekend.

Goals from Jason Jones and Luke Lovell had put Lampeter 2-0 up at the interval, although they were pegged back by a goal from Marcus Dean, and the leader had to dig deep to secure their win.

Newcastle Emlyn manager Steven Hicks had to scratch around for a side to face second-placed Bargod Rangers, and the Parc Puw men ran out 5-0 winners, with two goals each from Robbie Jenkins and Dafydd Owens and a single goal by Owain Thomas.

Cardigan Town’s title hopes were dented as they were forced to come back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Felinfach, following early goals from Aled Davies and Owain Evans.

Goals from Liam Doherty and Tomos Toft earned the Magpies a point, against a home team that had drafted in seven players from the Reserves.

Llandysul managed to shade a 2-1 win against Aberporth, despite being outplayed for long spells at Parc Tir Y Dref. Lewis Jones and Ben Thomas provided the goals for the Swallows.

Crannog won 5-3 against New Quay thanks to two late headers from Rhydian Roberts. The Greens were a goal down early on when Rhys Davies hit the net with a scorching volley, but on the half hour Mark Davies set up Ashley Butler for another belter of a goal.

Davies and David Evans then gave Quay a two-goal lead, before George Colven brought the scores back to 3-2.

Rhys Davies levelled for Crannog on the hour, but two late headed goals from Roberts sealed an exciting win.

Goals from Robbie Evans and Huw Owens saw Aberaeron Reserves claim 2-1 win away against Pencader, with Craig Gordon on target for the hosts.

In division two Dewi Stars moved up into second position with a 2-1 win over Llanboidy at Cae Dandre.

Ryan Hurrell headed them in front, and midway through the second half veteran Andrew Jones doubled their account, but Rhys Jenkins hit an excellent 25 yard shot to halve the deficit.

Midweek Action

LAMPETER had lifted themselves to the top of division one last Tuesday with another emphatic victory as they registered a 7-0 win at Aberporth.

Luke Lovell and Gethin Hunter both scored twice, with Mark Rivers, Jason Jones and Robert Slawkowski also on target for dominant title contenders.

Llandysul meanwhile won 5-1 on Tuesday night at New Quay, with Ian Barrett and Scott Thomas both scoring twice, along with a Ben Thomas goal. Craig Richardson netted for Quay.

Cardigan Town followed up their 5-0 win over Aberaeron Reserves on Tuesday with a 2-0 win over Llandysul on Thursday, with a Liam Doherty penalty and a John Lumb strike.

On Wednesday, Newcastle Emlyn had to settle for a goalless draw against Crannog, whilst St Dogmaels beat Pencader 4-0, with two goals by veteran Steve Williams and singles by Tom Rogers and Adam Williams.

In division two, Danny Williams scored six goals as Llandysul Reserves hammered SDUC 10-1, with Simon Davies weighing in with four goals.

A Louis Harding earned promoted Cilgerran a 1-0 win over Maesglas, whilst two goals from John Rees secured a 2-1 win for Cardigan Reserves over Llanboidy, who replied with an own goal. Ffostrasol won 3-1 at home St Dogmaels Reserves in midweek.

In the Reserves Cup, goals from Nessim Aroussi, Owain Evans and Rhys Davies earned Felinfach Reserves a 3-2 win against Ffostrasol Reserves.
