LLANYSTUMDWY, who have found points hard to come by in the Gwynedd League, especially since the Christmas period, were close to gaining something before Llangoed clinched a late win.
The final result at Dwyfor Park was 4-2 for the Anglesey visitors in their first encounter against Aled Jones’ side this season - and yet the gap had been close at just 3-2 up until the final 12 minutes.
Llangoed featured the match star in Tom Zalot, who celebrated all four goals, including a couple of early strikes on 13 and 17 minutes.
The home team gradually regained their composure and clawed their way back to parity before the break, thanks to Darren Parry on the half hour and Mark Godfrey a minute from the break.
Zalot popped up with Llangoed’s third goal two minutes into the second half, but that was all separating the teams for a while as Llanystumdwy held out hopes for some reward, until that man Zalot struck again on 78.
Bangor 1876 - having won all 16 games played, with 115 goals scored - were denied a visit to Bro Goronwy, when the Moelfre hosts reported being unable to raise a team.
Waunfawr notched a 5-2 win against Bethesda Athletic, and the nap-hand was mostly the handiwork of Jack Evans, who completed a hat-trick, after seven, 76 and 85 minutes from a penalty.
Evans was backed up by Adam Jones scoring on 34 minutes and Rhodri Owen on 61, whereas spirited Bethesda produced two defiant late replies from Dylan Price on 70 and 81 minutes.
Glantraeth went one better as they notched a 6-1 win over basement outfit Llanerchymedd, with goals from Paris Hargreaves on 28 and 56 minutes, James Ryan on 70 and 90-plus four, Iwan Kirkham on 85 and Joe Hayes on 90, while Sion Pritchard replied for the visitors on 75.
This weekend’s league fixtures will see Caergybi host Ogwen Tigers, Glantraeth entertain Bro Goronwy, Llanerchymedd play Bethesda Athletic, and Talysarn Celts host Menai Bridge Tigers.
