ABERYSTWYTH Town’s Welsh Cup third round tie at holders The New Saints will now kick-off at the later time of 5.15pm on Saturday, after it was decided to broadcast the match live on television.

The FAW and broadcasters S4C agreed to switch the live televised match from Holyhead to Oswestry on Friday morning - due to high winds being forecast on Anglesey tomorrow.

"The match between Holyhead Hotspur and Bangor City was initially picked as the televised match, and would have been the first ever live football match on Anglesey, so it’s disappointing that the elements have defeated us," said FAW Head of Competitions, Andrew Howard.

"We have monitored the weather forecast all week and with the winds scheduled to be consistently over 40mph on Saturday in Holyhead, regrettably we have decided it’s not safe to broadcast the game from the temporary gantry."

Aberystwyth expect a massive test at holders The New Saints, in what will be a repeat of the 2014 Welsh Cup Final - which the Saints won 3-2 at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground.

The Seasiders, who have not won in four matches, were frustrated last Friday when their home league match against Carmarthen Town was postponed because of the wet weather.

Having lost 4-0 to the Saints at Park Avenue at the end of October, the two sides will also meet again the following week in the Welsh Premier League on Friday, 11 December.

It promises to be a very tough double-header against the still-unbeaten Saints, who have already reached the final of the Word Cup, and are targeting a domestic treble.

Aberystwyth will be without striker Jamie Reed, who is on loan from The New Saints, whilst Geoff Kellaway is ruled out through injury, and defender Lee Surman is suspended.
