DOLGELLAU and Bangor served up a 12-try fest on the Marian, with the home team emerging victorious by 55-15, after falling behind to their fired-up visitors early on in the match.
Bangor made life difficult all afternoon for the Division Two North West leaders, and took a deserved lead after just 10 minutes when hooker Karl Roberts darted around the blind side to make it 0-5.
Dolgellau went ahead four minutes later, after second row Berwyn Hughes took a clean ball at a line out five meters out and stand-off Jac Roberts squeezed over for the try. Prop Dan Brazier converted.
Jac Roberts wrong-footed the visiting defence to cross for his second try of the match on 25 minutes, and with Dan Brazier’s conversion, Dolgellau were 14-5 up.
Just two minutes later Dolgellau centre Dylan Evans broke upfield and hooker Gwion Roberts was in good support to put centre Gareth Hughes in at the corner to make the score 19-5 to the home team.
Bangor, to their credit, dominated the last 10 minutes of the half and scored their second try through second row Michael Royston, to leave the game well poised at 19-10 at the half time interval.
It took only two minutes of the second period for Dolgellau full back Gerwyn Pugh to score, and after quarter of an hour centre Gareth Hughes put in wing Rhys Lewis in the corner for their fifth try of the game, to make the score 29-10.
A minute later prop Greg Smithies started a move that set off wing Rhys Lewis in for his second of the afternoon, and Gerwyn Pugh converted to make it 36-10.
Flanker Iwan Pugh crossed for Dolgellau’s seventh try, before another Bangor revival, led by outstanding flanker Ryan Butler, saw No 8 Gruff Tudor score from a five metre scrum, to make the score 41-15.
With five minutes left second row Bryn Jones started a move, and kept going to finish it off after wing Dafydd Ellis’s dart up the right touchline. Centre Gareth Hughes converted to make it 48-15.
Dolgellau’s ninth and final try came with two minutes to go as Bryn Jones crossed for his second try, with Hughes again converting for a 55-15 scoreline.
