MANAGER Gari Lewis says his Penrhyncoch side ‘are in a good place’ after they continued their upturn in fortunes with a 2-1 home victory over Gresford Athletic last weekend.

It has been a profitable four weeks for the Roosters, having won twice in the Cymru Alliance, while also making progress in the Welsh Cup and the Huws Gray Cup

Their revival will be put to the test on Saturday when they head to league leaders Prestatyn Town, but Lewis says it is a good time for his side to make the trip.

“It’s obviously going to be a tough game, they’re going well and have still got five or six players who were with them in the Welsh Premier League, but we can go there full of confidence, and we will look to go toe to toe with them,” Lewis said.

“We’re in a good place at the moment, we’re on a bit of a run and playing well, and the squad is looking stronger, with players now coming back from injury.

“A month ago, I couldn’t see where our next win was going to come from, but the players have really turned it around, and I can’t praise the lads highly enough.

“We’re not just winning, but winning with a bit of style, but we can’t get ahead of ourselves, there are still a lot of challenges ahead, starting with Saturday.”

The Roosters are forced into a change as they make the trip without the left-sided player Arron Lemon who is unavailable. Dafydd Carruthers and Antonio Corbisiero are also getting close to fitness, but they are unlikely to figure this weekend.

Penrhyn made the perfect start against Gresford by taking a fifth minute lead as Owain James found Josh Shaw, who shrugged off his marker and fired home.

Craig Pritchard went close at the other end, but the Roosters doubled their advantage on 24 minutes when Liam Doherty was brought down inside the box, and Lemon made no mistake with the penalty.

Mike Latham rattled bar with a free kick as Gresford came close to a reply before half time, but the visitors struggled to find a way through after the break against some solid defending from the Roosters.

They did conjure up a late reply, somewhat fortuitously, when Davd McIntyre’s deflected strike from distance found the net four minutes from time, but Penrhyn held firm to secure an important win.

Their third league win of the season, from 10 matches, has lifted Penrhyn up to 10th position in the Cymru Alliance table.

Unbeaten Prestatyn, however, will pose a tough test this weekend, with seven wins and two draws from their nine league matches, having been held to a 1-1 draw at Denbigh Town last weekend.
