TYWYN/BRYNCRUG showed their ambitions this season as they notched a solid 3-1 home win against a Carno side tipped to be amongst the frontrunners in the Spar Mid Wales League division one this season.

Aled Jones scored twice and Tom Allen-Davies also netted to secure the points, after Carno keeper Kris Williams had made three good saves before falling behind on the half hour mark.

Andrew Evans had got the Greens level two minutes later when firing home from 25 yards, but Tywyn came through for the win, despite being reduced to 10 men early in the second half.

It was a disappointing result for Carno boss Chris Davies, who is looking for his side to be in title contention again this season.

“We say every year we want to improve on last year’s finish,” Davies said.

“We were second last year, so to improve on that we have to win the league. We know it’s not an easy task, and we expect some serious competition at the top of the table. But we know that we’ve got as strong a team and squad as anyone else.”

He added: “We’ve signed eight new players and we’ve brought in real top quality. We still feel that we are stronger than we were.

“But to be successful you have got to take every game as it comes, remain focused and crucially get results.”

A youthful Machynlleth succumbed to a late goal against last season’s division two champions Kerry, and after playing some very good football in the second half, the hosts felt they were unlucky to lose it so late.

Playing some good, open football the hosts found the back of the net through goals from Charlie Jellett, Callum Page and Sion Jones.

Kerry, however, were 3-1 up at one stage and they edged the win with a debut goal from former Churchstoke player Max McLaughlin and an opening day hat-trick from Mark Hughes.

A good crowd attended Borth United’s first ever game in division one against Welshpool at Uppingham Fields, but it proved to be a difficult day for the Crows.

Ian Probert opened the scoring from the penalty spot, Josh Morgan doubled the lead with a deft chip over keeper Justin Davies, and Chris Roberts gave the visitors a 3-0 interval lead.

Borth made a solid start to the second half, but they were unable to capitalise on their possession and Ricky Litchfield completed a 4-0 away win with a cool finish.

Llanidloes Town got their campaign off to a winning start, but they were made to battle all the way against a 10-man Knighton Towm.

Steve Jones, from the penalty spot, debutant Drew Reynolds and an own goal from stand-in keeper Danny Ives saw the Daffs take the spoils at Victoria Avenue.

Knighton however, stayed in touch, despite having ex-Rhayader goalkeeper Joey Prosser sent off early on.

Aberaeron had a long journey back from Llanrhaeadr after losing 4-1 on their travels. The Ceredigion men had made a bright start, with Mattie Davies opening the scoring early on, but the home side hit back strongly.

Debutant Dan Graham led the way with a good hat-trick for Llanrhaeadr, with Glenn Evans also scoring as the visitors started to tire.

Llanfair United had to battle for a 2-1 win at promoted Churchstoke, having taken an early lead when Andrew Hughes set up Ben Jones for a fantastic 25 yard volley.

Churchstoke replied when Tony Meredith finished coolly from close range, but in the second half, Llanfair restored their lead when Andrew Hughes scored the winner with a low strike from the edge of the box.

After a goalless first half Karl Seliaerts had opened the scoring against his former club from a free kick.
