LLANYSTUMDWY completed a league and cup double over Blaenau Amateurs’ Reserves on the Gwynedd League scene by winning their Meditel Cup first round tie 2-0 at their Dwyfor Park ground.
The previous weekend, Aled Jones’s side had emerged with a 4-3 result over the young Amateurs at their Cae Clyd base, and a third derby between the neighbours is set for this coming Saturday in the Safeflue Shield, again at Dwyfor Park.
Meditel Cup progress was ultimately clinched by Llanystumdwy by means of their goals from Tomos Williams on the half-hour and Ben Coates on the hour.
Nefyn United were eliminated in the cruellest way, as they lost to visitors Bro Goronwy in a tense penalty shoot-out, which finally ended unfavourably at 3-4.
The rivals at the Cae’r Delyn ground had been inseparable at 3-3 with 90 minutes played and then 4-4 after extra-time.
Nefyn’s Dafydd Jones had scored after 3 and 100 minutes, Daniel Roberts netted on 60 and Dylan Sion Jones on 77, whereas Bro Goronwy kept pace through Andy Williams on six and 70 minutes, Graham Jones on 18 and Callum Thomas on 95.
Harlech Town were also knocked out in a 5-0 defeat against Menai Bridge Tigers, who prospered through Callum Davidson scoring on 30 minutes, Gareth Barker on 38 and 42 minutes, Tom Scorer on 44 and Darren Parry’s own-goal after 48.
Aberffraw settled for 1-0 over league leaders Bodedern Athletic, with Nathan Moore netting the crucial goal a minute from the final whistle, while Bethesda Athletic’s match against Waunfawr was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
In the only Gwynedd League match, Bontnewydd won 3-1 at Talysarn Celts, thanks to goals from Sion Williams on 46 minutes, Daniel Evans on 52 and Gavin Jennings on 69. Ian Pleming replied on 62.
