LLANIDLOES Town produced a patient display to overcome a stubborn Dyffryn Banw 3-1 to earn their place in the third round of the FAW Trophy competition.
After being frustrated in a goalless first period, Llani broke the shackles with well taken second half strikes from Richie Evans, Ashley Owen and Rhys Evans.
“The lads did well, and are learning that you can’t win a game in the first 20 minutes,” said boss Hugh Clarke. “We wore them down, and scored three second half goals for the second game running.
“We had chances in the first half, but it didn’t go our way, but we kept going, showed our fitness and got our reward.”
Banw got men behind the ball to frustrate their first division visitors, but they never looked back once they went ahead five minutes after the break when Richie Evans cut in and unleashed a curling shot from edge of area into the top corner.
That lead was doubled when a flowing move down the left saw the ball squared for Ashley Owen to drive home low from 25 yards, and another strike from outside the box by Rhys Evans sealed the win.
The one disappointment was that Banw pulled a goal back late on through Tom Foulkes, after some slack defending.
Bow Street marched on into the third round with a 4-1 win over Spar Mid Wales League division one rivals Churchstoke.
The Magpies opened the scoring when a Tom Evans header was deflected into the net, and another own goal followed from a Steffan Richards assist for a 2-0 lead.
Joe Haycock halved the deficit, but Mattie Evans finished off a great solo run to pass the ball into the back of the net, and Tom Wyn Roberts completed the scoring with a beautifully placed header for 4-1.
Machynlleth crashed out with a 2-1 extra time defeat to Montgomeryshire League club Trewern, but they were left to rue a late missed penalty by Sion Williams.
Callum Page netted for Mach and Barry Haralambous for Trewern, before Alex Wilson netted the winner for the hosts.
Carno meanwhile crashed out with a 3-1 defeat to Llanfair United, who were three goals up at the interval through a Phil Hughes brace and Gethin Stephens, before Tomos Richards scored a reply.
Tywyn/Bryncrug bowed out with a 4-2 defeat at Knighton, despite replies from Mark Edmondson and Tom Davies. Goals from Robbie Steele, with a brace, Connor Bird and Sam Roff sealed Knighton’s win.
Llanrhaeadr hit back to beat Montgomery Town 4-1, with goals by Daniel Graham, Gus Harris, Khyam Wyton and Marc Griffiths, after the visitors had been in front at half time through Sam Davies.
Radnor Valley beat Brecon Northcote 4-1 through a brace by Callum Matthews, and singles by Liam Jones and Jack Williams, with Joel Evans replying with a penalty, whilst a Karl Seliaerts penalty and a Chris Carroll brace earned Berriew a 3-0 away against Llandrindod Wells.
Two goals from Wayne Austin and singles by Nathan Prodger and Baile Austin meanwhile earned Llansantffraid Village a 4-2 win over Presteigne St Andrews.
