LLANIDLOES Town bowed out of the JD Welsh Cup with a 2-0 first round exit at the hands of Huws Gray Cymru Alliance side Llanfair United at Victoria Avenue.
Two second half goals from James Davies saw Llanfair through, but Llani made their higher ranked visitors work hard for the victory, particularly in the first half.
“We probably edged the first half, we played some decent football, but Llanfair were the better team in the second half,” said Llanidloes manager Hugh Clarke.
“We had a few players missing, which was disappointing with it being the Welsh Cup, but the lads who came in did well.
“Llanfair were more street-wise than us, but we did okay, and showed what we can do on our day, but once they had got the second goal, there was no way back.”
With George Clarke impressing in the first half, Llani managed to get forward to put some dangerous crosses into the box.
Nashawn Blake, Andrew Hughes and James Davies all went close for Llanfair, but on 49 minutes a corner clearance found James Davies who fired home a strong strike through a crowd of players.
Llani’s best chance came in the second half when visiting keeper Chris Brown fumbled, but Rob Bennett made a timely goal-saving block to deny Rhys D Evans.
On 80 minutes, however, James Davies was put through and he bravely headed the ball in past the advancing keeper.
Carno bowed out with a 2-1 defeat at Hawarden Rangers, where substitute Alek Walsh netted the winner for the hosts.
After a goalless opening half, Charlie McDaid headed the home side in front early in the second half, but that was cancelled out by Peter Rees, who rounded the keeper and slotted in from a tight angle.
Further chances saw Rees lob the keeper, only to be denied by the post, but the Wrexham Area Premier League side won it when Walsh scored with a good strike.
Aberaeron crashed out with a 4-1 defeat to Caldicot Town, who scored through Mitchell Slape, Alex Jarman, Ollie Smith and Ben Smith, whilst Dan James replied.
Porthmadog swept aside Caersws 4-0, with Julian Williams, Gareth Jones Evans, Chris Jones and Joe Williams on the mark.
An Adam Jenkins hat-trick helped Guilsfield beat Welshpool 6-3, with Stuart Rogers, Louis Irvine and Jake Cook also scoring, whilst a hat-trick by Iwan Matthews and a Marc Griffiths brace saw Llanrhaeadr beat Prestatyn Sports 5-3, and Llandrindod Wells won 3-2 at Merthyr Saints.
